The Acquired Brain Injury Communication Lab is a dynamic team of researchers investigating communication disorders following acquired brain injury (ABI). The team works closely with people with traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, and other acquired neurological communication disorders. The ABI Communication Lab Clinical Research Officer plays a critical role in leading research projects and optimising grant management processes, contributing to the organisation's research agenda. This role involves driving the adoption of innovative methodologies, ensuring comprehensive data management, and fostering valuable partnerships. The Research Officer is responsible for managing research documentation and ensuring the impactful dissemination of research findings, making meaningful contributions to both the academic and broader community.Working under broad supervision, the Research Officer has the autonomy to plan, prioritise, and select appropriate methods to accomplish tasks. They are empowered to resolve routine issues independently and collaborate with others on more complex matters, ensuring smooth project progression and efficient handling of responsibilities.Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage the operations of the ABI Communication Lab team, overseeing digital health projects and ensuring efficient project management and resource allocation.
  • Lead and optimise research projects, refining methodologies and meeting research goals, with a strong emphasis on clinical insights and innovation.
  • Provide expert advice on research direction, keeping the team updated on the potential opportunities for additional funding, latest methodologies, compliance requirements, and best practices.
  • Coordinate data management processes, ensuring thorough analysis, accurate reporting, and valuable research insights that drive project success.
  • Strengthen partnerships with stakeholders, enhancing collaboration, managing communications effectively, and fostering a culture of trust and cooperation.
  • Streamline administrative and purchasing processes, ensuring timely management of research documentation, compliance paperwork, grant applications and associated documentation, and financial schedules.
About you
  • Hold or are about to complete a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Speech Pathology, Clinical Psychology), with demonstrated experience in running clinical trials and managing ethics applications.
  • Proficient in digital health technologies and highly interested in virtual reality and artificial intelligence applications within the research landscape.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage complex data analysis processes.
  • Experience using university systems such as Concur and Workday is desirable, along with proficiency in research software.
  • Effective communicator with strong organisational, time management, and planning abilities, capable of working collaboratively within a team.
  • Critical thinker with proven decision-making skills, able to balance multiple responsibilities while delivering high-quality customer service.
