  • Manage all aspects of performance studies in the OSM, on the undergraduate and postgraduate level, in cooperation with the subject coordinators and the Officer: Professional Services (General administration).
  • Manage and promote creative outputs.
  • Manage concerts in cooperation with the Concert Coordinator of the OSM.
  • Marketing in cooperation with the Innovations and Development Manager, and the Concert Coordinator.
  • Recruit students in cooperation with the Academic Head, Programme Director and Innovations and Development Manager.
  • Manage the appointment of all contractual members of staff in collaboration with the Academic Head.
  • Manage the administration of the Odeion Building and premises.
  • Manage the maintenance and acquisition of all instruments.
  • Provide artistic leadership in the faculty.
  • Participate in all faculty management structures.
  • Participate in university management structures, where applicable.
  • Handle HR-related aspects of the staff members in collaboration with the Academic Head (examples are performance management and motivation for promotion and bonuses or salary notches of academic, performance or administrative staff members.
  • Approve leave applications of all staff members.
  • Mentor and empower performance staff members and provide career planning and encouragement to apply for funding and staff development opportunities (in collaboration with the Academic Head where applicable).
  • Maintain fair working conditions for all staff and consistently apply performance management in accordance with the policy of the university in collaboration with the Academic Head.
  • Plan the artistic year calendar.
  • Promote effective internal and external communication, as well as effective liaison with the university management and administrative functions.
  • Strategic planning in consultation with the Academic Head of Department, Programme Director and Innovations and Development Manager.
Inherent Job Requirements:
  • A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Music specialising in performance studies.
  • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Odeion School of Music at the University of the Free State (UFS).
Recommendations:
  • A minimum of three year's lecturing/leadership experience at a tertiary institution.
  • Performing artist with a proven record of creative outputs.
  • Experience with regard to the operational management of a music school, including concert management.
  • Experience with regard to the delivery of completed postgraduate students specialising in performance studies.
