KEY RESPONSIBILITIESStrategies and Planning:

  • Achieve company goals pertaining to product expansion and access objectives
  • Business to business custodian in relation to new business ventures, commercial agreements and partnerships
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive access strategies to ensure optimal availability and affordability.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to address access barriers and implement solutions to improve access.
  • Drive business development objectives and drive regional business case approvals
  • Develop and manage adherence to product asset list
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and meetings to network and stay informed about industry and product developments.
  • Monitor market trends and regulatory developments to inform access strategies and product pipeline.
  • Maintain expertise in local medical scheme legislation and funder landscape.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment of South Africa pricing, reimbursement and access systems to understand opportunities.
  • Develop tangible scientific concepts for alternative reimbursement models to expand access.
  • Develop strategies to maximize business opportunities in the private and public healthcare domain
  • Provide regular reports on progress and highlights challenges and opportunities.
  • Conduct and communicate annual assessment of top opportunities and risks for the geography.
  • Upskill sales force to ensure awareness of access issues impacting their business as well as to maximize pull through opportunities.
Company representation:
  • Is the primary contact, within the company, with PEEU and DOH
  • Ensures a high profile and appropriate relationship building with medical aid bodies, professional bodies, associated professional forums and government bodies
  • Occupies committee positions where appropriate and beneficial to the company
  • Gathers market intelligence and uses this to inform healthcare and product strategies for the company
  • Is recognized as a knowledgeable and sapient source of authority in own field
Product representation on formularies:
  • Motivates company product representation on formularies
  • Along with Marketing Manager(s) makes pricing recommendations to the company to ensure inclusion in formularies, presented along with business impact analysis
  • Responsible for all product reimbursement assessment needs across all therapeutic areas in South Africa with timely and effective support to optimise access.
  • Lead the development of business cases for products utilising insights from data analysis to build scenario financial modelling.
  • Business cases should be centred around new product launches, life cycle management, as well as generic and device entry scenarios
  • Create/localise payer tools to support products value proposition.
  • Monitors and reports on the companys performance relating to inclusion on formularies
Tendering:
  • Once a tender has been awarded, is responsible for implementation of tendering processes and advises on national stock management
New Business:
  • Drive commercial agreements for in licencing and local development.
  • Work closely with Marketing Managers, Product Managers, Supply Chain Manager and Regulatory to prioritise pipeline
  • Oversee and approve business cases for products utilising insights from data, access and pricing analysis.
  • Create/localise payer tools to support products value proposition.
  • Business cases should be centred around new product launches, life cycle management, as well as generic, Speciality and OTC scenarios
  • Recommend, plan, implement and project manage healthcare projects e.g. Medical Scheme Disease Management Programme. Monitors and reports on progress and makes recommendations for changes etc.
  • Fulfil the role of NHI Champion within PD, liaising with key stakeholders (internal and external) to prepare PD for the future NHI scenario
PRE-REQUISITESEducation:Business Degree or appropriate diplomaExperience:
  • 10+ years experience in a generic pharmaceutical environment
  • At least 3 years experience in managed healthcare
  • At least 3 years experience in business development
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • Strong knowledge of generic pharmaceutical market, industry trends, competitors and leading customer strategies
  • Financial management, monitoring and budgeting
  • In-depth knowledge of administration processes, systems and practices
  • Highly computer literate
  • Project management skills
  • Negotiation skills
