Pretoria - GautengAdvocacy Divisional ExecutivePretoria5-year fixed term contractMarket RelatedThe role:The Advocacy Division at my client is responsible for promotion of Competition in the South African economy through non-enforcement means focusing on ensuring a pro-competition legislative, policy and regulatory environment, promotion of awareness and compliance with the Competition Act, realisation of conduct of firms and other parties in markets that is consistent with the objectives of the Competition Act, resolution of competition issues through non-enforcement means and promoting the participation of Small and Medium Enterprises and firms owned by Historically Disadvantaged Persons in the Economy.The Advocacy executes this mandate through:

  • Participation in legislative, policy and regulatory development and
  • Review processes within the state to ensure the creation of a pro-competition environment
  • Drive stakeholder engagements and collaboration to resolve competition issues and
  • Ensure compliance with the Act, Public awareness and education programs to promote compliance with the Act and
  • Serving as a gateway for enforcement complaints at the Commission
The Advocacy Divisional Executive, reporting to the Commissioner, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Commission and other critical governance structures of the Commission and is part of the strategic leadership of the Commission.The successful candidate must be self-starter who is able to operate at strategic level within and outside the organisation. The successful candidate will need to be able to influence thought leadership in relation to the work of the Commission and influence leadership in government on public policy and policy and behaviour in relation of the private sector and other key stakeholders including organised labour and other strategic partners of the Commission.Experience and Expertise:
  • A minimum of a relevant Masters Degree in Economics, Law or Equivalent Degree.
  • A minimum of 10 years overall working experience - 5 years' experience working at executive management level, preferably on regulatory issues/policy issues at a strategic level.
  • Must have proven experience in contributing to the formulation and development of policy.
  • A proven experience in engaging at a strategic level in public and private sector stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate fit with the Commissions Values (Communication, Ownership, Making a difference, Professionalism, Employee Welfare, Teamwork, Efficiency.
