Grains for Africa, a well-established trading company specializing in agricultural commodities is seeking talented and experienced Agricultural Commodity Traders to join our dynamic team. This is an exceptional opportunity to work with a reputable company that values expertise, professionalism, and innovation in the commodity trading industry. One opportunity available in Johannesburg and one in Somerset West.Responsibilities: * Develop and execute short-term trading strategies across South Africa, focusing on identifying profitable opportunities while effectively managing risk exposure.

  • Conduct in-depth market analysis, monitoring pricing dynamics, international and local market trends, and emerging developments to inform trading decisions.
  • Provide regular market commentary and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Stay informed of regulatory requirements and industry developments to ensure compliance and maintain a strong network of industry contacts.
  • Responsible for procurement, sales, and distribution of agricultural commodities.
  • Formulate and manage sales budgets for the category.
  • Ensure optimal customer satisfaction through effective relationship management.
  • Handle commercial issues, including contract negotiations and vendor approvals.
  • Develop and capitalize on new trade opportunities.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of work procedures and trading systems.
  • Ensure all suppliers meet stringent vendor approval requirements.
  • Travel frequently to visit customers and suppliers to maintain strong business relationships.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiencies and streamline trading processes.
Qualifications & Requirements: * A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in commodity trading, preferably in physically traded products.
  • A proven track record of profitability and self-managed trading portfolios.
  • Established relationships within the commodity trading industry.
  • An extensive network and strong industry contacts.
  • A relevant degree or diploma in a related field is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong negotiation skills to drive favourable commercial outcomes.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational abilities to manage multiple trading activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in English and Afrikaans.
  • Well-developed IT proficiency.
  • Commercially minded with a strong analytical approach.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to engage with customers and suppliers.
Preferred Skills: * Leadership qualities with the ability to collaborate and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Multilingual proficiency is an advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of the South African market and agricultural trading industry.
