Agronomist - Port ElizabethFull job descriptionOur client, a highly respected Citrus Producer situated in the Sundays River Valley in theEastern Cape, forms part of one of the biggest fresh fruit companies in the world and islooking for a highly skilled Agronomist with at least 5 years of experience in theagronomic field, as well as a proven track record of commercial farming in citrus, tojoin their technical team.Qualification requirementsBachelor's Degree in Agriculture, with horticulture/crop science/Agronomy /SoilScience MajorSkills and attributes for successMinimum 5+ Years experience in the Agronomic fieldPlant selection process and the development of planting and irrigationschedules, budgets, and timelines.Proven track record of commercial farming in citrus.Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office and diagnostic scientificsoftware.Strong research, decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments.Listening, verbal, written communication skills, and presentation skills.Ability to work as an individual as well as in a team contextBe able to mentor subordinatesAbility to present technical subject matter to senior management, officials,farmers, and other stakeholdersKey responsibilities within this roleThe successful applicant will be responsible for fertilizer programmes and watermanagement on +/- 1400 ha of citrusResponsible for annual budgets of above programmes (+/-R40 million)Provide input on farming practices, including irrigation, pruning and yieldestimates Crop Management: Develop and implement effective crop managementstrategies to optimize yields quality, and profitabilitySoil Science: Analyse soil composition, fertility, and health to recommendimprovements and ensure sustainable soil management practicesWater Management: Develop and implement efficient irrigation systems andwater conservation strategiesResearch and Development: Conduct research and experiments to developnew crop varieties, soil management techniques, and irrigation systemsConsultation and Advisory Services: Provide expert advice to farmers,agricultural companies, and government agencies on best practices in cropproduction, soil management, and water conservationData Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyse data on crop yields, soilhealth, and water usage, and prepare reports to inform decision-makingWhat working at our Client offersThe company understands the importance of team, and their culture is one of integrity,enthusiasm, stakeholder stewardship and excellence, requiring that each personperforms at a high level of excellence.
