Job Description


Our client is seeking an Agronomy Manager who will be able to oversee the production of tobacco based on the IPS model to meet the business needs of our clients company.Requirements:Direct, promote, and coordinate the agronomy operations in a manner that will optimize our clients resources while managing both business and financial risks and aligning production strategies to address ESG requirements and farmers productivity initiatives in line with GAP and STP.Establish a lean and agile agronomy team that can effectively multitask.To ensure security of supply that is aligned with GAP/STP & ESG principles and that adheres to the Companies purpose, values, and mission.To create productivity & efficiencies throughout the leaf production supply chain that benefit both the farmer & Company.Think strategically, communicate effectively and a positive, can-do attitude, that promotes teamwork & inclusion within the agronomy department and throughout the company.Develop and implement agronomy strategic plans, objectives, and policies that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the company.Assign team members defined job responsibilities, maintain these job descriptions, develop performance standards, complete, and administer bi-annual and annual performance reviews for team members, plan and provide opportunities for advancement, training, development, and succession planning.Contribute to the development of policies and procedures for various activities related to the company's assigned activities, such as: contracting, pricing, risk management, marketing of the crop, logistics - total supply chain.Develop programs to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the company's agronomy presence in areas where we operate.Promote company communication efforts at all levels regarding agronomy market intelligence, policies, procedures, and agronomy department direction as it relates to the assigned volume, ESG and ERP systems development.Communicate the strategic direction and needs of the company to the farmers, stakeholders, and the employees.Facilitate periodic GAP and ESG assessments (audits) as required and provide guidance and follow-up to ensure corrective actions are appropriate and completed.Develop project scopes, budgets, benchmarks, and schedules.Analyse and be able to read and interpret data to make informed decisions.Apply sound business principles and judgement in the management of the department.Develop annual and long-term strategic and operational plans for the Agronomy department.Encourage other key departments to understand the business plan of the department and that efforts with other departments are not in conflict.Ensure that the agronomy division team members understand company-wide objectives and how the agronomy department supports company goals.Contract, monitor, and categorize farmers for tobacco growing according to GAP Guidelines.Skills:Technical Expertise in Agronomy.Research and Analytical Skills.Project Management.Leadership and Team Management.Communication and Interpersonal Skills.Problem-Solving Abilities.Regulatory Knowledge.Qualifications:Bachelors degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Plant Science, or a related field.Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in agronomy, with significant experience in tobacco cultivation.Experience in managing agricultural projects and leading a team of agronomy professionals.Relevant certifications in agronomy or agricultural management.Proficient in the use of agricultural software, GIS tools, and other technology relevant to crop management and research.
