Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud Architect to join our team and play a pivotal role in driving our cloud strategy and infrastructure across South Africa and the broader African region. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, implementing, and managing cloud solutions, as well as a proven track record of supporting business expansion through scalable and secure cloud architectures.
This role requires a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative cloud solutions that align with our business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cloud Architect and Design
Lead the design, development, and delivery of cloud solutions, with a primary focus on Alibaba Cloud products and industry-specific solutions.
Engage with clients to understand business requirements, conduct solution presentations, and drive technical discussions.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, acting as a trusted advisor for their cloud transformation journey.
Coordinate and mobilize internal resources from HQ R&D, Platform Departments, and ecosystem partners during critical project phases to ensure successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.
Manage Proof of Concept (POC) implementations and product demonstrations by leveraging cross-functional technical teams.
Provide technical guidance and architectural best practices to clients
Develop and implement a comprehensive cloud strategy to support our expansion across Africa.
Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies and services to meet business objectives.
Lead cloud migration projects, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Oversee the deployment of cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, and security components.
Ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions with existing on-premises systems.

2. Collaboration and Leadership:
Work closely with IT, development, and business teams to align cloud solutions with organizational goals.
Mentor and guide junior team members on cloud technologies and best practices.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on cloud-related matters.
3. Governance and Security:
Understanding cloud governance policies, including cost management, compliance, and security best practices.
Familiar with robust security measures to protect data and applications in the cloud.
Ensure compliance with local and international regulations (e.g., GDPR, POPIA).
4. Regional Support:
Provide technical leadership and support for cloud initiatives across African markets.
Collaborate with local teams to address region-specific challenges and opportunities.
Monitor and optimize cloud performance to ensure high availability and reliability.

Position Requirement

Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Certifications: Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Alibaba Cloud Professional (ACP) certificate, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Architect).
Experience:
5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years focused on cloud architecture.
Proven experience designing and implementing cloud solutions for large-scale enterprises.
Strong knowledge of multi-cloud environments and hybrid cloud architectures.
Experience supporting business expansion in emerging markets, particularly in South Africa and Africa, is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in cloud platforms (Alibaba Cloud, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Strong understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of networking, security, and data management in the cloud.
Soft Skills:

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
