Job SummaryAnalytical Scientist - Lucky Star Operations (LSO)Purpose of the role:Under the supervision of the FSQA Manager, the Analytical Scientist is responsible for managing a variety of activities, including the transfer of analytical methods, the optimization, the development, and the validation of AOAC, ISO/IEC methods. This position will operate from our Lucky Star Operations site in St. Helena Bay, West Coast.Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop SOPs for the appropriate AOAC/ISO/IEC analytical methods.
  • Develop and optimize experimental protocols.
  • Draft development/validation reports after the execution of the protocol; examine, write, or assist in drafting SOPs for the analytical services.
  • Study the failures of the analytical methods by using technics for root cause analysis.
  • Consult scientific professionals and scientific literature to obtain assistance in resolving the problems.
  • Document the laboratory activity and file all data as required.
  • Respect safety regulations and assist in maintaining a safe environment in the laboratory.
  • Utilize the laboratory equipment such as scales, pH meters and analytical devices in the execution of procedures.
  • Assist, as needed, in carrying out peer reviews of other analytical and scientific chemists before submitting them to Quality Assurance.
  • Undertake other tasks as required by management.
  • The incumbent would potentially have to work with various external partners or service providers such as academic laboratories, institutions, research centres, test laboratories, or consultants.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Education: BSc Chemistry Degree/National Diploma or BTech Analytical Chemistry
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in an analytical lab environment that conducts analysis on foodstuffs and a broad range of other products
  • Experience in a range of analytical testing including wet chemistry methods.
  • Experience in ISO17025 and experience as a technical signatory will be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in operating and maintaining an HPLC.
  • Data interpretation and report writing.
  • Method development and validation, including concomitant compiling and documenting methods.
  • Knowledge and competence in using all Microsoft packages including MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
