The role supports the product development process by analysing required specifications, developing (part of) products, testing and developing of documentation. The role will further be involved in analysing the market developments, demands, and customer requirements, in order to recommend the introduction of relevant products and solutions. Product Development Specialist has a statutory regulatory responsibility; ensuring that all products are compliant with set regulations in respective geographical areas where Protea Chemicals does business. Finally, the Product Development Manager is responsible for supporting customers and the commercial team with regard to product quality and application.

Qualifications
University BSc Degree in Agriculture or similar Masters Degree in Agriculture will be an added advantage

Experience
Experience enables job holder to deal with the majority of situations and to advise others (Over 3 years to 6 years).
Experience in conducting research
Previous experience as a nutritionist or animal feed activities
Previous experience in managing multiple stakeholders

Duties
New products development (i.e., market research, evaluations, laboratory, and field trials, launches, etc.)
Customer raw materials and finished products analysis co-ordination with Omnia Sasolburg laboratory.
Establishing customer needs on value-added services required beyond product.
Define product regulatory roadmap and business case jointly with commercial team.
Manage product specification dossiers and ensure they are up to date on a set database.
New product registration with relevant statutory bodies in South Africa and Sub Sahara Africa.
Responsible for updating statutory product registration & ensuring that requirements are implemented as required by the government & the business in South Africa and Sub Sahara Africa.
Support and participate in statutory audits (AFMA audits and DAFF audits, State Vet audits).
Participate and represent Omnia at various industry associations e.g., AFMA, PFI, MPO,SAPA, SAPPO, etc.
Coordinate quality NCMs investigations both internally and externally.
Arrange testing of relevant products annual / 6 months basis for Dioxins and PCB twice per annum, Melamine once /year, animal by products and Proteins once / year, Mycotoxins once/annum (as per testing list - on share point).
Coordinate quality NCMs investigations both internally and externally.
Coordinate activities around the management of off-specification products.
Keep track of SENS samples send to various laboratories, potential suppliers/manufacturers.
Conduct supplier quality audits and site inspections.
Completion of relevant customer questionnaires.
Conduct customer trainings on product applications with the support of relevant principal supplier where applicable.
Customer support relevant to product quality e.g., shelf-life extensions, documentations, statements, etc.
