Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an Artisan Welder for our Traxx Africa project based in Boksburg.THE PURPOSE OF THE ARTISAN WELDER ROLE IS TO:
Fabricate and repair steel components, sub-assemblies and carbody shells as per specified work procedure, work instruction and Engineering drawings to meet the defined production schedules and quality levels. Require to use various welding techniques.THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE:
xefx82xa7 Ensure and comply with safety standards guidelines, policies and procedures
xefx82xa7 To conduct quality self-inspection of own work before shipping to next station.
xefx82xa7 Maintain 5S condition of the working zone / Housekeeping.
xefx82xa7 Welding locomotive components as per welding procedure
xefx82xa7 Operating hand and power tools
xefx82xa7 Preparing and setting-up of necessary tools and equipment for welding jobs.
xefx82xa7 Identify welding defects and repair
xefx82xa7 Gouging
xefx82xa7 Exercise skills and knowledge of welding trade qualification
xefx82xa7 Correctly instruct, and transfer skills to any apprentice and semi-skilled worked assigned to you to ensure safety and quality of work
xefx82xa7 Drive cost improvement initiatives through continuous improvement.
xefx82xa7 Maintain equipment standards (through First level maintenance schedules).
xefx82xa7 Identify and report any secondary damages.
xefx82xa7 Propose potential quality or productivity enhancements
xefx82xa7 Report fabrication issues and assist in resolutions as required.
xefx82xa7 Support with ad hoc operational activities to support production as and when required.The preferred candidate will meet the following requirements:
xefx82xa7 Minimum Grade 12 / N3
xefx82xa7 Formal Trade Qualification in Welding
xefx82xa7 Minimum 3 - 5 years relevant welding fabrication experience in GMAW (CO2)
xefx82xa7 Knowledge of OSHACTThe ideal candidate will have the following competencies

xefx82xa7 Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to follow instructions.
