In considering candidates for appointment into the advertised posts, preference will be accorded to persons from a designated group in accordance with the approved Nelson Mandela University Employment Equity Plan.CORE PURPOSE OF JOBThe purpose of this post is to provide student, staff, and other stakeholder support through consultation by assisting staff and students to solve problems, manage change, improve efficiency, and ensure the effective and efficient execution of assessment functions for the assigned faculty/ies, the Assessment and Graduation Section and in the broader Academic Administration where required.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Humanising consultative engagement with students, staff, and external stakeholders to assist, advise and ensure compliance with relevant Assessment and related institutional policies and procedures.
  • Perform efficient and effective assessment processes as required.
  • Engagement with training and orientation of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan, organize and execute final assessments functions for allocated faculties/campus.
  • Ensure integrity and security of assessment/examination processes.
  • Coordinate the viewing and remarking of assessment/examination scripts.
  • Administer the appointment of external moderators/examiners and ensuring internal and external moderation is conducted
according to approved protocols and procedures.CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Good knowledge and understanding of university and assessment rules, policies, procedures, and systems. Ability to consistently implement all of the above.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to ensure and achieve the required standard of communication to communicate the impact of selected scenarios to the affected stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Good computer skills as well as a good knowledge of the ITS and other relevant systems.
  • Ability to manage and perform functions concurrently, although different in nature, while working to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently within a diverse team to build relationships in order to gain cooperation from staff, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiative in problem-solving.
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal qualities:
  • Institutional awareness of processes and factors that impact processes.
  • Management skills that shape the operations of the work flow processes, including, for example, managing personal operational plans.
  • Decision-making skills when managing workload, assessing different options, and choosing the best course of action, on a daily basis.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues through recognizing shortcomings and scenarios and to effectively carry out solutions.
  • Time management skills to perform multiple tasks of equal priority at the same time.
  • Strong discipline-specific IT skills to ensure effective automated business processes.
  • Technical communication skills to communicate clearly and persuasively.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 12 or equivalent (eg technical qualification) - preference will be given to candidates with an M + 3; AND
  • A minimum of 3 years' relevant working experience at a Higher Education Institution in academic administration or in an assessment and graduation environment (preference will be given to candidates with assessment and graduation experience).
