Position TitleAsset Improvement Engineer ElectricalLocationSmelter, SaldanhaPosition OverviewAs the Asset Improvement Engineer Electrical, you will serve as an electrical asset management subject matter expert, within the Technology & Improvement department. You will facilitate asset management strategies and initiatives to support the Southern Operations to optimize asset and energy performance. In this role, you will be influencing and enabling stakeholders through communication, asset integrity approaches and asset lifecycle support to meet business objectives.Primary Responsibilities
  • As electrical subject matter expert assist in developing engineering strategies, standards and programs with key purpose to optimize the performance of assets and ensure asset integrity as well as execute or assist in executing such programs;
  • Assist in ensuring and maintaining a healthy, safe and legislative compliant work environment;
  • Manage and participate in the feasibility, design, planning, construction and commissioning of major electrical plant upgrades;
  • Assist in Energy efficiency and Decarbonization related program;
  • Supports Reliability Engineers and Project Managers
Qualifications & Experience
  • B Eng./B Sc./B Tech. Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Mandatory);
  • Asset Management certification (Added advantage);
  • Energy Management certification (Added advantage);
  • Professional status (Recommended);
  • Government Certificate of Competency (Added advantage);
  • Drivers license (Mandatory) Experience
  • Minimum 5 years electrical engineering and maintenance experience in a heavy industry environment (Mandatory);
  • Project and feasibility studies (Recommended);
  • Medium voltage infrastructure (Recommended);
  • Industrial power electronics (Recommended).
Knowledge & Skills
  • General knowledge of all engineering disciplines;
  • Physical Asset Management principles such as:
  • Risk assessments and asset criticality analysis techniques;
  • Asset maintenance plan development;
  • Asset life cycle costing and replacement strategies;
  • Reliability engineering techniques;
  • Root cause analysis techniques;
  • Facilitation of workshops for problem solving, strategy development, value engineering and root cause analysis;
  • Auditing (work practices against standards and asset condition) and report writing;
  • Project management principles;
  • High levels of computer literacy: o
  • MS Office Suite (Mandatory);
  • SAP & AutoCAD (Added advantage).
