In this regard, it is creatively responding to national imperatives for education and training in the 21st century.As part of its promotion of the scholarship of teaching and learning, the Faculty seeks to appoint an Associate Professor OR Senior Lecturer in Science Education within the School of Science and Mathematics Education.Key Performance AreasThe successful incumbent will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty. He/ She will be responsible for the following key performance areas with different emphasis in each area depending on the level of appointment:

• Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Science Education
• Conduct research and publish in the field of Science Education
• Construct a coherent research agenda consistent with the broad research goals of Science Education and within the Faculty
• Promote and support research activities in the School of Science and Mathematics Education including applications for funded research, and cooperate with SSME and the Science Learning Centre for Africa in research initiatives
• Postgraduate supervision
• Provide academic leadership
• Curriculum development and assessment
• Scholarship of engagement for societal impact
• Serve on committees devoted to the development of the Science Education and faculty objectives

Minimum RequirementsMinimum Requirements (for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor):

• A PhD in Science Education or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the field of Science Education
• A track record of quality academic research with at least 10 DHET accredited publications related to the field of Science Education
• A record of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and PhD students
• Evidence of expertise and national standing in his/her field of research.
• The integration of community engagement with learning, teaching and research
• Leadership experience at departmental and faculty levels
• Undergraduate Physics/ Chemistry / Physical Science at NQF level 6

• A PhD in Science Education or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the field of Science Education
• A track record of quality academic research with at least 4-6 DHET accredited publications related to the field of Science Education
• A record of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and PhD students
• Evidence of expertise and national standing in his/her field of research.
• The integration of community engagement with learning, teaching and research
• Leadership experience at departmental and faculty levels
• Undergraduate Physics/ Chemistry / Physical Science at NQF level 6
