Job SummaryAbout the RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Bid- Estimator to join a leading industrial engineering and construction company specializing in mechanical, structural, and piping projects within the heavy industrial and power sectors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, proven estimating expertise, and the ability to drive project success through meticulous preparation of construction related deliverables associated with estimating and tendering processes as well as collaboration with cross-functional teams.Reports To: Bid Proposals LeadLocation: Bedfordview, Gauteng Province, South AfricaApplication Closing Date: 22 January 2025Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse and interpret tenders to provide accurate technical and financial solutions tailored to project requirements.
  • Develop cost estimates and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for complete installations based on contractual and project specifications.
  • Conduct comprehensive quantity take-offs from design drawings and other documents.
  • Collaborate with planners to integrate project timelines with cost estimates, ensuring alignment between the program and the BOQ.
  • Liaise with construction teams to confirm scope understanding and validate cost estimates.
  • Prepare and issue subcontractor inquiries in coordination with technical, procurement, and plant departments to secure competitive pricing.
  • Consolidate cost estimates across all disciplines and present summaries at bid approval meetings.
  • Compile post-submission reports, capture lessons learned, and maintain historical tender information for future reference.
  • Work with commercial specialists to incorporate and verify all contractual qualifications, clarifications, and commercial conditions.
  • Maintain and update cost data within the company's estimating system to ensure accuracy and consistency in future bids.
  • Stay informed about statutory and industry-specific requirements (e.g., CIDB, MEIBC, SEIFSA).
RequirementsWhat We're Looking For:Qualifications:
  • Matric or equivalent.
  • A National Diploma, B-Tech, or B-Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Quantity Surveying is required. (Min. NQF Lvl 6)
  • Valid Driver's licence
Experience:
  • 5-10 years of experience in the engineering industry, ideally with exposure to mechanical, structural, and piping environments.
  • Engineering site experience within power plant or heavy industrial projects is essential.
  • Experience and ability to read and understand mechanical and/or construction designs and assembly drawings (structural or mechanical) as well as industry-specific design standards.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent planning, organising, and time management capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in customer relationship management to build and sustain professional client interactions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
  • Assertive and empathetic team player with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, structural, and construction designs.
  • Proficiency in CCS (Construction Computer Software) or similar estimating tools is advantageous.
