BRAND MANAGER SA: CONSUMER BEAUTY AND COLOUR | CAPE TOWN
R750,000.00 CTC PER ANNUMOur client, a leading global FMCG brand are looking for a Brand Manager: Consumer Beauty and Colour to join their Commercial team.JOB PURSPOSES:To take responsibility for the planning, management and execution of all marketing, advertising, and promotional activities towards achieving the brand(s) strategy. Key deliverable is the successful execution of international brand strategy and programs with local market insights and topspin. In addition, the Brand Manager is responsible for the implementation of brand(s) omni-channel and digital marketing objectives and overall financial performance of the brands, ensuring profitability and market share / brand ranking growth.YOUR DAY TO DAYAs the brand manager you will be responsible for ensuring Coty brands grow their relevant markets shares through successful management of the brand portfolio and executing marketing strategies.Your main areas of responsibility will include the following:

  • Gross and Net Margin ownership at brand level
  • Retail sales performance co-ownership
  • Developing strong strategies relevant to competitive positioning and channel focus
  • Managing marketing campaigns across TV and online platforms to ensure that products and services meet customers expectations and to build the credibility of brands
  • Managing consistency with all in store/trade marketing executions to the required global standards with the Trade Manager
  • Analyzing the success of marketing campaigns and creating reports to feedback monthly
  • Carrying out competitor and market research in order to keep up to date with customer trends, as well as trying to predict future trends
  • Effectively communicate marketing activities across multiple functions, and obtain global approvals where necessary
  • Managing a marketing budget
  • Building relationships with key suppliers and global contacts
  • Product Lifecycle Management - global and local discontinuations, innovations
  • Forecasting product innovation
  • Contribute to promotional strategies and ROI: Sets; GWPS; Retailer KCPS/Discounts; Co-op
  • Administration and Reporting
  • Educating stakeholders on your brand and brand strategy
  • Regular feedback to global teams on best-in-class executions, and market education
MINIMUM ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Qualified to bachelor's degree level, BCom marketing or equivalent
  • 5-8 years of experience in retail industry brand management/FMCG
  • Proven ability to drive retail success of a brand/product
  • Ownership of marketing budgets
  • Experience in Colour category advantageous
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Knowledge of the market and understanding lifestyle category and market segments
  • Extensive experience in social media, advocacy, and digital marketing
TECHNICAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Proficiency in MS Office (intermediate to advanced)
  • Experience extracting and analysing panel data (Circana)
  • Strong business and financial acumen and able to influence P&L to reach financial KPIs
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strategic thinking, creativity and innovative ideas for campaigns
  • Project, time and change management skills with diverse audiences and environments
  • Strong planning. organisational skills and can work with ambiguity
  • Manages stress and can work on multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Strong market research skills, understands and can forecast trends
  • Able to lead self and others, with strong interpersonal skills, EQ, coaching and teamwork abilities
  • Customer centric approach and the ability to respond to consumer and customer needs
  • Ability to work independently and employs sound judgement in decision making
  • Full proficiency in English language. Confident in both written and spoken communication with the ability to present and influence at all levels
  • Proficiency in MS Office (intermediate to advanced)
TRAVEL:
  • 5 - 10%
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Must have mass colour background
  • Ability to bring category experience to the brand
  • Ideal background: Revlon, Essence, Maybelline, Loreal (colour), Avon, Sorbet. Would also consider retailer backgrounds in Clicks and Dischem, with specific Mass colour experience
  • Must have experience in managing media budgets (Digital, advocacy being core to that experience)
  • No need to understand new product development lifecycle, all the innovation is set and designed by global teams
  • Similarly no experience needed in designing brand equity, or any localized communications (directing TV shoots, conceptualizing and producing local assets etc.)
  • Must have knowledge of 360-degree executions and collaborated with trade marketing; but no direct execution experience needed
  • Advantageous to have experience in a people leadership role (this role will have a small team reporting to them) - but not a pre-requisite
