Job Description


The Business Controller is responsible for overseeing financial operations related to trade accounting and reporting. This role ensures the accuracy of financial reporting and provides strategic financial guidance to support business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong blend of accounting and finance acumen, with a deep understanding of commercial dynamics within the industry.Key Responsibilities:Trade Accounting:

  • Ensure accuracy of trade accounting in compliance with US GAAP and IFRS standards.
  • Develop and maintain financial models and dashboards for management reporting.
  • Enhance and develop the trading CTRM platform to achieve trade accounting goals.
Financial Analysis:
  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Support trading units with insights into return on working capital and profitability.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company.
  • Review and approve payments and credit notes.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies as needed.
Business Partnering:
  • Act as a finance partner to various business units, providing financial insights and guidance.
  • Support operational and strategic initiatives with financial expertise.
  • Use financial modelling to assess the viability of new projects.
  • Facilitate financial training and knowledge sharing within the organization.
Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in trade accounting and operations.
  • Lead and participate in projects to enhance financial systems and processes.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master's degree or CA(SA) preferred).
  • US CPA or US GAAP qualification or experience is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial analysis, reporting, and business controlling.
Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Understanding of derivatives and their use in a trading environment.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion).
  • Knowledge and experience in automation is an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong capability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable recommendations.
