A family-owned and operated food distributor, established in 2009, specializes in supplying quality foods and related products to the hospitality and catering industry throughout the Western Cape. The company offers a range of products, including groceries, frozen foods, perishables, hygiene products, and packaging materials, catering to the diverse needs of its clients.Job Summary:The company seeks a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer to join its procurement team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing high-quality food products and related materials, ensuring cost efficiency and supplier reliability to support the hospitality and catering industry.Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Sourcing: Identify and source a variety of food products and related items, including groceries, frozen foods, perishables, hygiene products, and packaging materials, to meet the needs of hospitality and catering clients.
  • Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure the best pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor market trends, assess supplier performance, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms.
  • Inventory Management: Collaborate with internal teams to manage inventory levels, ensuring alignment with business demand and avoiding stockouts or overstocking.
  • Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards.
  • Reporting: Prepare and analyze procurement reports to support strategic decision-making.
Requirements:
  • Educational Background: A relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of buying experience, preferably in the food distribution or FMCG sector.
  • Skills: Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the hospitality and catering industry's supply chain dynamics.
  • Personal Attributes: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
