Job Description


Main function of the Job

  • Data Centre Management
  • Management of data Centre cabling infrastructure to provide a cost effective and concurrently maintainable system supporting 99.99% uptime.
  • Manage working methods to ensure all SLA and MSAs are achieved
  • Full installation & Decommissioning of communication cables in line with customer requirements (CAT5e, CAT6 and Fibre). This will include; installing, testing and labelling new cables, uploading test results and documenting cable routes within stipulated SLA turn around times.
  • Testing and troubleshooting cabling issues which will include CAT6, Singlemode & Multimode fibre cabling with appropriate testing instruments, i.e. OTDR, Power Meter, Light Source, Copper & Coax testers, etc
  • Basic network understanding and troubleshooting methods, Loopback testing on copper, fibre, SFPs, etc
  • Power Distribution Unit (In Rack PDU) configuration, physical installation, firmware updates and fault finding.
  • Coordinate a team of technicians to ensure client requirements and requests are successfully completed and updates effectively communicated.
  • Management and distribution of installation and maintenance tasks to installation teams.
  • Own and manage client upgrades and deployments such as new interconnection installations, rack and stack and fault-finding support.
  • Ensure that records, schematics, or registers are updated and kept current.
  • Manage planned and corrective maintenance in line with Teraco, Industry and data centre standards.
  • Share knowledge and industry best practices by building close working relationships with technicians, managers and service providers.
  • Ongoing training and evaluation of installation teams on data centre and industry best practice and standards.
  • Work closely with Data Centre Manager to resolve escalated support cases and provide relevant technical feedback including investigation and completion of incident reports.
  • Comprehensive completion of root cause analysis and reporting for all incidents and outages.
  • Monitoring and quick response to alerting and critical situations.
  • Ensure stock levels are closely monitored and replenished as and when required closely monitoring and tracking costing and wastage.
  • 3rd party vendor management.
  • Implement corrective actions promptly to mitigate the negative effect of system outages.
  • Implementing maintenance initiatives of cabling infrastructure to ensure alignment with industry best practice.
  • Perform standby and after hours support as required.
  • Compliance
  • Maintain compliance in accordance to all relative policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance in accordance with all relevant certification and ISO standards.
  • Meet agreed inter-departmental OLA (Operational Level Agreement)
  • H&S monitoring and corrective action to meet statutory compliance, SLAs and good business practice
  • Implement company and departmental policies, processes and work instructions as per the agreed quality and timeline/ RFS(ready for service)
  • Critical System Management
  • Management of data centre infrastructure to provide a cost effective system supporting 99.99%
  • Ensure applicable planned and corrective maintenance is managed in accordance to ensure customer MSAs and SLAs are achieved
  • Task finalisation and report accurately, as per agreed format, quality and within the agreed timelines
  • Data Centre Ethics
  • Ensure compliance is maintained incorporating industry best practices.
  • Ensure data centre facilities standards are enforced and maintained.
  • Ensure data centre cleaning standards are enforced and maintained.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence with HS&E standards.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Cabling qualification and certification preferable.
  • Knowledgeable with routing and switching of transmission equipment preferable.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant data centre experience
  • Good knowledge of Data Centre environments and critical infrastructure systems
