LOCATION: Sandton.R HIGHLY NEGOTIABLE PLUS AN ANNUAL PERFORMANCE BONUSOur client provides a full range of stockbroking services supported by strong management and administrative capabilities. They pride themselves on product innovation and client service. One of their key strengths is their ability to devise solutions for the individual needs, with all of their expertise at your disposal. They provide a full range of stockbroking solutions including; traditional trade executions (non-discretionary / self-managed portfolio), an advisory portfolio, full service stockbroking service into all of the frontier markets of Sub-Saharan Africa and specialist research integrating both a macro and micro market views.They now seek a chief investments officer (CIO)to join their team. You will report to the CEO. This is a role for a suitable employment equity candidate who is passionate about investments and can also lead a team and face off to clients and the press etc. wrt a marketing profile in addition. The focus in the investment skill set and gravitas. Experience in an asset manager or securities firm is important.JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required to establish investment strategies and manage our flagship equity model portfolios (local and international). Furthermore, you will be responsible for assisting and complementing company's portfolio management team with the view to making recommendations as to acquire, dispose or hold investments based on empirical research;
  • Investment strategy:
  • You will be required to provide input and management oversight of investment strategy formulation to ensure the business is supported by the appropriate investment capabilities;
  • You will be required to manage and accept accountability for the company's flagship model portfolios (local and offshore);
  • You will be required to serve as the custodian of the business' investment philosophy;
  • You will be required to ensure investment capabilities and initiatives are appropriately prioritised and aligned to the investment philosophy;
  • You will be required to work and provide technical assistance on investment policy;
  • You will be required to ensure that investment mandates are established, implemented, and adhered to;
  • You will be required to monitor and assess the effectiveness and performance of investment strategies, products and solutions and identify areas of opportunity that will enhance the client experience and returns;
  • Regulatory compliance and risk management:
  • You will be required to develop strategies for identifying, measuring and mitigating risks relating to the overall investment management process;
  • You will be required to ensure compliance of company policies, regulations and rules;
  • You will be required to chair the company's investment committee;
  • Investment research:
  • You will be required to oversee the investment research agenda and to identify areas of outperformance, whether sectors or stocks, so that the company outperform benchmarks;
  • You will be required to supervise and mentor equity analysts complementary to the business' investment process;
  • Effectively lead team:
  • You will be required to lead and provide the strategic direction to the investment management and equity research teams within the company;
  • You will be required, to identify opportunities to leverage off strategic relationships and alliances to build new investment or growth opportunities;
  • You will be required to provide management and the investment areas, where required, with an investment view and investment performance;
  • You will be required to provide mentorship and guidance to direct reports;
  • You will be required to be involved in setting investment goals for performance and growth;
  • You will be required to manage performance of direct reports and hold them accountable;
  • You will be required to identify relevant development needs;
  • You will be required to ensure transformational targets are met.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • You have a postgraduate degree in investments management, finance, actuarial science, quantitative or risk management;
  • You are a chartered financial analyst (CFA);
  • You have a minimum of 10 - 15 years current, relevant investment management experience;
  • You have a minimum of 5 years current, relevant senior leadership experience;
  • You have exposure to portfolio management across a variety of products, markets and industries and a substantial track record of investment performance;
  • You have exposure to both local and global equity portfolio management and equity research;
  • You have stakeholder management and influencing skills.
