Job Description

:An Africa-focused, global leading investment platform for the energy sector is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to join their team. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Cape Town, with frequent travel within the African continent to oversee project activities.As Chief Operating Officer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the company and its projects. Your key responsibilities will include optimizing business processes, driving adherence to organisational protocols, and supporting the CEO in managing key initiatives. This role is both strategic and operational, requiring exceptional organisational skills, the ability to manage cross-functional teams, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.Responsibilities:Operational Leadership

• Collaborate with the CEO to drive organisational initiatives and operational goals.

• Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, including implementing organisation-wide goal setting, performance management, and project planning.

• Lead the development and execution of business strategies aligned with the companys short- and long-term objectives.

• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, clients, partners, and investors.

• Ensure that sufficient capital investments and budgets are in place to meet growth and profitability targets.

Operational Efficiency

• Lead cross-functional projects and initiatives, ensuring timely execution and alignment with strategic goals.

• Monitor the progress of key initiatives and provide regular updates to the CEO.

• Implement project management frameworks to support efficient execution across departments.

• Oversee performance management systems to track organisational and individual progress.

Team Leadership and Development

• Build and lead high-performing teams by fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.

• Mentor and develop department heads and key leaders within the organisation.

• Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention strategies are in place.

• Promote a highly inclusive culture where employees can thrive and achieve organisational goals.

Financial Oversight

• Work closely with the finance team to manage budgets and financial activities.

• Ensure that financial goals and budgets are translated into actions by all departments.

• Analyse financial data and prepare detailed reports and forecasts for the CEO and board.

• Ensure the effective allocation of resources to support growth and operational goals.

Compliance and Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations, taking appropriate action when necessary.

• Stay informed on changes to industry regulations and implement adjustments to maintain compliance.

• Develop and oversee risk management strategies to safeguard the companys operations and reputation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Media, Events or a related field

• MBA or equivalent advantageous

• 5+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the events industry

• Understanding of accounting/corporate finance principles

• Language skills: French, Portuguese, and Arabic are considered an asset

• Proficiency in Google tools

• Experience with Xero accounting software

• Familiarity with HubSpot CRM and Adobe Creative Suite
