REPORTS TO: Section Manager/Senior Technologist or other person appointed as supervisorPRIMARY POSITION PURPOSEThis position is responsible for the technical design of projects within the section and will be required to provide assistance to Professional Engineers.The ResponsibilitiesSupervise and manage small teams (Technicians, Students, Draughtsmen, Graduates)Mentor Technicians, Graduate Technologists and/or Graduate Engineers in relevant software toolsCheck the work of other team membersDevelop increased design ability and qualityDraft technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational qualityMake technical decisions and provide solutions rather than one completed end resultAble to present / represent their technical workAble to draft responses to straightforward bids assistance sought with commercial aspectsDevelop knowledge of the commercial aspects of project managementDevelop understanding of Functional Unit technologies and marketsAbility to check and inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specificationsConstruction administration and monitoringPreparation of tenders for construction including BoQs and specificationsPreparation of tender bids to clients including draft cost estimatesDevelopment of internal standards and implementing themDevelop solutions to complex engineering problemsPerform design work duties under the supervision of a Professional Engineer/Technologist/Other ProfessionalsApply SMECs systems and procedures and ensure enforcementWorking with clients and municipal line departments to capture their requirementsCompilation of contract documentation and specification including measurement filesClient invoicingProject auditing (if assigned the role of quality auditor)Project managementProject financial forecasting, budgets and associated resource planningDraughtingKey Performance IndicatorsQualityProfessionalPlanning of workload to meet deadlinesKnowledge of SMECs systems and proceduresProficiency in civil design and analysis software packagesRecommended Qualifications, Skills, and ExperienceBachelor of Engineering degree or Bachelor of Technology degree/higher degree from an accredited universityMinimum 3 years of practical experience in design of transportation and/or municipal services infrastructure, bulk water and sewerage infrastructureClear understanding of local functional business technologies and marketsKnowledge of basic project management and the use of project management softwareWorking knowledge of Autodesk Civil3DWorking knowledge of Infraworks, Storm & Sewer Analyses, iDAS, Water Design Software, etc will be advantageous.Experience with BIM systems would be advantageous.Basic Knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to effectively write technical reports.Experience in Government standards, codes and documentation.Experience in design management and design delivery for projects.Experience in managing professional teams of medium/large projects, would be beneficial.Experience in administering GCC 2015 projects will be beneficialExcellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi- disciplinary environmentWe believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to our business success.
