Job Description


Main purpose of the job:

  • To recruit, screen and provide clinical management to participants in clinical trials according to study protocols while ensuring the scope of practice for Clinical Associates is not deviated from
Location:
  • 22 Esselen Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
  • Inform participants about the study
  • Screen potential participants and obtain informed consent according to SOPs
  • Administer study questionnaires/interviews
  • Conduct pre and post HIV test Counselling
  • Able to take participant through the informed consent process
  • Verify participant vital signs as indicated by respective team members and/or conduct vital sign checks on patients as required
  • Obtain history and perform physical examination in accordance with clinical associate's level of education, training, and experience

  • Perform/order and interpret investigations as per clinical associate scope of practice
  • Apply correct prognosis/diagnosis, taking all information and tests into account and ensure appropriate treatment
  • Apply holistic patient management and care
  • Prescribe medication/s, under supervision, as necessary ensuring protocol adherence
  • Provide participant education and as required counselling
  • Refer participants to alternative care if necessary
  • Maintain full clinical records for all participants
  • Complete source notes and patient logs
  • Capture patient data on the Case Report Forms
  • Quality control CRFs and other study documents
  • Resolve protocol queries and missing data
  • Manage calibration and maintenance of Equipment
  • Check emergency trolley and order new stock as required
  • Compile relevant reports and feedback on all activities
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership for driving own career development in attending training and development sessions and relevant meetings
Required minimum education and training:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Medical Practice (BCMP)
Required minimum work experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience
  • At least 1 year in a clinical trial or research environment
Professional body registration:
  • Health Professionals Council of South Africa
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
  • Experience in a research environment
  • Experience in public health will be an advantage
  • Certification in HIV Management and good clinical practice
  • Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
  • Be tactful, respectful and maintain confidentiality
  • Good administrative skills together with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Assertive, confident, and adaptable
