If so, we invite you to explore the possibility of joining us to play your part in Desmond Tutu Health Foundations exciting future.The main purpose of this role is to provide high nursing quality and deliver excellent youth friendly services at our adolescent clinic, based within a Health Park providing a space for sport and physical activity, education regarding healthy eating, and mental health support. The clinic serves adolescents 12-29 years, predominantly providing SRH and HIV prevention and treatment services, as well as general primary health care for those 12 years and older.

  • A degree or diploma qualification in Nursing (General, Community, Psychiatry)
  • Active registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
  • Clinical Assessment, Treatment and Care Qualification (PHC Nurse Clinician)
  • At least 5 years of nursing experience
  • At least 1-2 years staff management
  • At least 2-5 years Nursing experience in a primary healthcare clinic
  • Sexual and reproductive health trained, inclusive of Implant insertion and removal certificate
  • Familiar with latest, STI, SRH, PrEP, HIV Management and TB and guidelines
  • Experience working with adolescents
  • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of email, excel, word processing and internet
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
  • Ability to work harmoniously with youth of diverse backgrounds
  • Client focused
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to foster a collaborative relationship with local clinics and hospitals
  • Must be detail orientated
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Administration skills
  • Maintaining strict client confidentiality
  • Willingness and ability to work youth friendly hours
Advantageous:
  • NIMART trained and certified as competent to work independently
  • Fluency in Xhosa, English, Zulu
  • Valid Drivers license and ability to drive
  • Own transport
  • Dispensing license
Responsibilities:
  • Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for the youth and adolescent clients
  • Ensure good clinic flow in the youth clinic (YC)
  • Maintain participant confidentiality
  • Provide education on sexual reproductive health including HIV/TB and STI education, screening and treatment and follow up care to clients
  • Rapid testing for HIV, STIs and pregnancy
  • Perform pregnancy tests as required.
  • Provide Family Planning counselling & services including insertion and removal of Implanon
  • Provide PrEP and ARVs as required and related education and support on side-effects, adherence etc.
  • Provide Primary Health Care services (including mental health) according to PACK & EDL guidelines
  • Assess, advice and treat the client needing a prescription
  • Ensure familiarity with local counselling testing and referral guidelines
  • Refer to relevant secondary or tertiary hospital as needed
  • Capture data daily on Redcap database
  • Ensure that consultation rooms have sufficient supplies to run the clinic on each day
  • Order stock monthly from Province
  • Provide stats monthly to DOH (Department of Health)
  • Manage medical waste monthly
  • Monthly checking of emergency trolley and eyewash stations
