Who are we?Sanlam Group Technology is responsible for the provision of a digitally enabled technology service as a group COE, drive business and transformation and provide group-wide digital and data architecture. We operate the various technology platforms and shared services, ensure Cyber and Information Security resilience, and act as technology governance and risk orchestrator for technology across Sanlam.What will you do?Produces logical and technical specifications from functional specifications and writes the code for medium to large applications in procedural / legacy environments. Responsible for designing and coding new systems and changes to existing systems and is responsible for the design of relevant databases. Incumbent carries out systems analyses, design, coding, program debugging, system testing, security assessments, performance assessments and user interfaces. Applying Main Frame, Desktop and Embedded Technologies within Legacy / Procedural Application Environments.What will make you successful in this role?

• Analysis of change requests received.
• Design prototypes for change requests
• Maintain existing programmes according to change requests.
• Produce appropriate software programs that satisfy the specifications.
• Test own programs / artefacts to ensure correctness
• Test Interfaces to other systems
• Debugging of programs
• Provide:

• Recommendations and cost / man-day estimates for implementing changes.
• Test information to Testers
• Hands-on training for own system
• Standby / support (if and when applicable)
• Implement changes into the Production environment
• Document changes implemented and programs
• Updates of data model documentation
• Problem solving, root cause analysis and user assistance (functional)
• Technical support / assistance to others on own programs / systems
• Correct errors / bugs in production

Qualifications

• Grade 12
• Relevant Information Technology Qualification (degree or diploma) will be strongly recommendable.

Experience

• 5-8 years' experience in Mainframe Software Development
• Prior exposure to applications in Financial Services will be strongly recommendable.
• Proven record of exceptional work performance

Knowledge

• Understanding of Cobol on the mainframe
• Assembler knowledge would be beneficial
• On the mainframe development environment (ROSCOE, TSO, SmartTest)
• Basic understanding of Data Management Systems (e.g. QSAM, DB2) will be strongly recommendable
• Strong technical skills (MQ, SQL, JCL, and VSAM)
• Sound understanding of the Software Development process and methodology in the IT Organisation
• The different flows/roles within SARS (Directives, Annuities, IRP5, Interest Certificates)
• Payment flows and Accounting
