LOCATION: Cape TownR HIGHLY NEGOTIABLE PLUS ANNUAL PERFORMANCE BONUSOur client is one of the largest private alternative investment managers in Africa. They manage investments in private equity, infrastructure and a range of impact funds. The investment professionals are in SA Africa and manage significant active funds and many hundreds of portfolio companies!They now seek a communications manager to join their team. You will report to the head of marketing. The new manager is smart, engaging, youthful and energetic. He interacts with the CEO and this is a highly visible mobile marketing area.JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required to have a strong background in financial services, and ideally asset management or investment banking to join the marketing team;
  • You will be responsible for creating high-quality written content that supports internal and external communications efforts, engages key stakeholders and reinforces the brands messaging across various channels; you must be able to 'write' and not just edit;
  • You will be responsible for working with the head of marketing, develop a communications strategy to meet the marketing and business objectives:
  • You will be required to manage the communications function with assistance from the marketing managers;
  • You will be required to develop standout content for a broad range of marketing and media requirements, including but not limited to articles, press releases, brochures, reports, e-mailers / client comms, crisis comms, infographics, video scripts and radio talking points;
  • You will be required to develop a monthly content plan that meets the objectives of the communications strategy;
  • You will be required to ensure high standards of language and a consistent tonality throughout all communications in line with brand guidelines;
  • You will be required to ensure that marketing material, including the website, is kept up-to-date and of high quality to communicate effectively with clients, intermediaries, and the media;
  • You will be required to report on monthly communications activity and performance; leverage analytics to determine effectiveness and seek continual improvements of marketing and communications initiatives;
  • You will be required to develop and maintain a deep understanding of both the internal and external audiences so to effectively communicate with them;
  • You will be required to support events function by supplying copy and ensuring the correct tonality and wording on event communications;
  • You will be required to coordinate, write and edit quarterly commentary ensuring delivery within deadlines;
  • You will be required, in conjunction with the head of marketing, to manage the PR function with agency partners.
CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  • You have proven expertise in the financial industry, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, compelling and accessible language for diverse audiences;
  • You have a strong writing and editing background;
  • You have a journalistic approach to research, interviewing the experts and clearly explaining their views and analysis to specific audiences;
  • You have a high energy level, strong sense of teamwork and a can do attitude;
  • You are a persuasive negotiator;
  • You have excellent communication (verbal and written) skills in English;
  • You have solid listening skills with strong EQ;
  • You have good negotiation skills, confident in developing and putting forward the companys position in external meetings and with senior management;
  • You have the ability to understand complex legislation and influence future policy development;
  • You have sound organisational skills, ability to prioritise and manage multitude of issues simultaneously;
  • You have significant experience of managing professionals over a geographically and culturally diverse region;
  • You have the ability to combine strategic perspective with the need to act quickly when the situation demands;
  • You have the ability to prioritise work and deliver high quality output to tight deadlines;
  • You have strong inter-personal skills to engage at a senior level inside and outside the company group;
  • You are resourceful and creative;
  • You are passionate about this industry.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • You have a marketing or journalism qualification in conjunction with economics / investment management qualification;
  • You have a minimum of 8 years current, relevant experience in communications in the asset management / financial services industry - this is essential;
  • You have the ability to write clearly and have a good grasp of financial language targeted at institutional investor audiences - flow - this is crucial;
  • You are proficient in internal communications with input from human capital stakeholders;
  • You have experience in the PR space and crisis management;
  • You have relevant financial services industry knowledge, ideally with experience in private markets;
  • You are able to keep abreast of international and local trends.
