The Communication Specialist is responsible for providing support to the communications manager in ensuring alignment and consistency with the development and implementation of communication strategies, campaigns, events, and the management of communications channels (both internal and external).Be part of the team.   • Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Act as a safety leader to reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health is paramount.
  • Identify and manage reputational risk on behalf of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability by putting mitigating programmes in place.
  • Deliver on projects that will enhance or deliver on the business strategy.
  • Partner with Corporate Communications to support Platinum and Group initiatives.
  • Gather, prepare and gain approval of content for our channels such as Engage, newsletters, community newspapers, Eureka, website, etc.
  • Active engagement across the operation to identify communications opportunities.
  • Through interpreting strategy, drive existing and potential issues that could impact business directives and outcomes.
  • Manage risk assessment and highlight projects or issues that require re-engineering or refocusing.
  • Research, establish, and manage complex communications issues.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders across the Group as well as externally to establish contacts to obtain information, coordinate projects, clarify issues, make referrals, and process requests directed to interviews experts on potential issues, as well as gather information which will be shared through publications
  • Manage a number of diverse special projects simultaneously and meet deadlines on each to ensure accuracy and timeliness and effectiveness of assigned projects, and attention to details.
  • Develop factually and technically accurate research data and materials.
  • Work directly with highest levels of organisation management and with various functional heads to coordinate short term projects, which generate effective relations.
  • Obtain information, coordinate projects, clarify issues, make referrals, and process requests directed through Corporate Affairs & Sustainable impact.
  • Interviews experts on potential and existing issues, to gather information which will be shared through internal and external communication channels.
  • Exercise judgment on a wide range of issues and projects that could impact Platinum or Group activities.
  • Deliver benchmarked communication solutions in support of group issues.
  • Production (writing and editing) of content for both print and electronic communication.
  • Review all external publications and technical papers to ensure consistency of message and quality of output.
  • Provide support in organising site visits and events, including developing communications collateral.
  • Support the communications manager in ensuring brand compliance across the operation, including the branding of Platinum-sponsored community projects.
  • Provide support with the development and implementation of internal communication campaigns, employee surveys and other initiatives.
This role is at a Band 6 level and will report into the Section Manager Communications.Qualifications
  • Degree / Diploma in Communications, Journalism/ Business related studies
  • Postgraduate qualification an advantage
Experience, Knowledge and skills
  • 3 years' experience in leading and supporting the delivery of effective communications strategies
  • Mining industry experience a plus, but not essential
  • Experience in working with different cultures and business environments
  • Experience in dealing successfully with external stakeholders
  • Excellent research and interviewing skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience in the development and implementation of integrated communication plans in a complex environment
  • Track record in issuing briefs
  • Working knowledge of digital platforms such as web, apps and social media
  • Experience in engaging community stakeholders, or extensive community communication experience would be an advantage
  • Proven experience of interfacing with and influencing colleagues and senior management
  • Remains abreast of the latest developments in technology and social media to use it to the benefit of the business
  • Experience of newspaper/newsletter publishing and maintaining digital communication channels
Additional Information
  • Ability and willingness to work long and irregular hours
  • Regular travel may be required
  • Ability to act for the communications manager as and when required
