We are seeking unique people who believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive and safe environment.We're on the lookout for an experienced Community Liaison Officer to work closely with various key stakeholders such as sub-committees, procurement, SHEQ, and contractors, managing the community database for the shutdown resource planning and attending to any ad-hoc queries from the subcommittee. This request for a dedicated resource stems from the subcommittee's proactive approach to managing potential issues.As a Community Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Stakeholder relations mainly contractors and local job seekers
  • Maintain a verifiable and reliable database of contractors and local job seekers
  • Support the activities of various Saiccor ILCF subcommittees inter-alia Recruitment & Skills sub-committee, Procurement & Business sub-committee, and CSI sub-committee
  • Manage communication & requests from contractors emanating from the resource plans
  • Manage & audit contractor compliance against purchase order conditions agreed upon
  • Daily verification of the resource plans against the safety induction registers
  • Timeous response & support to contractor requirements
  • Support all activities of the contractors and job seekers during shuts and special projects
  • Pre-select and verify potential candidates for interview by contractors for the local communities
  • Conduct annual re-verification of the job seekers database
  • Management of the job seekers committee office
  • Attend contractor forums and job seekers' operational meetings
  • Assist SHEQ on inductions as far as possible
  • Identify and report potential risks such as political unrest, mill disruptions, and undue disruptions in the community
  • Mediate conflicts and disputes between recruiters and contractors
  • Assist the communications department as and when required to relay information to the local community
  • Analyse recruitment patterns among the seven traditional councils to ensure fair equitable employment
  • Prepare weekly & monthly reports and statistics on local recruitment by contractors
  • Assist and attend to different structures that exist in Sappi communities, on issues of risk for the identified key risk factors (Community Disruptions)
  • Arrange and assist with any other ad-hoc projects as and when required by management
What are we looking for?
  • National Diploma in related Community Relations or Rural Development field while a Bachelor's Degree will be advantageous
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
  • Fluent in isiZulu
  • Good rural development and project management focus experience, especially working with Amakhosi
  • Driver's licence
