We have an exciting position for a Compliance and Assurance Advisor who will implement the Kumba Regulatory Compliance plan and provide support for the overall regulatory compliance risk management, monitoring and reporting process.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.



As a Compliance and Assurance Advisor you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Develop Kumba's compliance framework - advisory authority
  • Manage the compliance risk management plan (CRMP) process for all relevant compliance standards working closely with assurance providers, internal and external- advisory authority
  • Ensure that self-assessments and assurance reviews are conducted by the requisite internal and external assurance providers - advisory authority
  • Review and communicate reporting templates for compliance self-assessment and assurance and incidence self-reporting - advisory authority.
  • Maintaining the regulatory universe of laws for Kumba Iron Ore; - advisory authority
  • Ensure implementation of performance standards and a compliance policy to be reviewed periodically - advisory authority
  • Review and compile relevant compliance reports for stakeholders (Exco, Board committees and KIO Board) - advisory authority
  • Incorporate compliance reporting and assurance provision into the Kumba combined assurance model - advisory authority
  • Liaise with ABAS and other assurance providers during compliance audits and manage investigations into compliance issues - advisory authority
  • Assist with compilation of the annual budget and control the expenses once the budget has been approved - advisory/management authority
  • Coordinate and provide periodic / adhoc training to the business unit functions and operations - advisory authority
  • Manage and ensure adherence with the Group Compliance Programme -advisory authority
  • Coordinate and perform risk assessments, monitoring, controls testing and reporting on group compliance programs - advisory authority
  • Provide support services in relation to intermediary risk management programme and execute all related tasks; advisory authority
  • Provide periodic intermediary risk management reports - advisory authority
  • Manage the activities relating to the Company's Governance Documentation Policy which entails but is not limited to, maintaining the master register of company approved policies and procedures, liaising with functional owners to ensure that policies are reviewed, updated and presented to the requisite forums for approval. Ensure that policies are published on Eureka! as required - advisory / management authority
  • Manage and maintain all IP and Trademarks for the Company in collaboration with Group Legal - advisory authority / management authority
This role is in the Finance department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Principal Risk and Assurance.

Qualifications
  • Relevant university degree in Legal / Commerce / Risk is essential
  • Relevant qualification or registration with a professional body including Legal / Compliance / Risk Management / Internal Audit would be an advantage
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in compliance, risk and internal audit environment within the mining or heavy engineering sectors.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation skills (relevant to Regulatory Compliance);
  • A proven track record of having operated at this level in a large complex multinational organisation.
  • Ability to engage with key stakeholders and understand their process requirements.
  • Communicate key compliance issues appropriately.
  • Ability to analyse, identify and quantify potential business impact and to develop ideas into practical solutions.
  • Analytical, Conceptual and results/outcomes orientated.
