:THE JOB AT A GLANCE:You will be responsible for responsible for driving Business Unit cluster and Corporate Services compliance with applicable national and international laws; regulations that pertain to the industry; professional standards; accepted business practices; and internal standards and provide the BU clusters and Corporate Services with an ethical and pragmatic perspective of compliance that helps the Tiger Brands business to manage risk, maintain a positive ethical culture and reputation, and avoid litigation. You will lead the implementation, execution and monitoring of relevant and appropriate compliance frameworks on a day-to-day basis and the development of a strong compliance and ethical culture across the BU clusters and Corporate Services. You will facilitate visibility and enhanced co-operation with key regulators and industry stakeholders.Responsibilities:WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Assesses legislative, regulatory and compliance risks affecting the Business clusters and Corporate services by versatile process analysis techniques
Keeps abreast of current and forthcoming legislation, with an impact or potential impact on the Tiger Brands group
Follows rigorous engagement at all management levels of the organisation and embed compliance policies & ethics frameworks end to end
Evaluates proposed legislation and interprets its impact on Business Unit clusters and Corporate Services in a timely manner once published
Communicates implications of new or amended legislation with strategic proposals and recommendations for action to BU Clusters and Corporate Services and provides continuous updates to the Business Unit clusters
Identifies potential areas of legal risk and vulnerability and develops, implements and monitors corrective action and controls
Reviews the nature and cause of compliance and ethical breaches and assess the seriousness in terms of laid down materiality criteria and assists the business in remedial action
Maintains an incident reporting register and file of all incident reports in collaboration with other Group functions
Tracks progress made on implementation of remedial action taken to prevent breaches from re-occurring
Champions the implementation of standardised processes, procedures and systems to prevent, detect, and mitigate breach of compliance and ethical standards
Develops and provides accurate and pertinent compliance and ethics reports to the relevant business unit/functional area management team, Group Executive, Board and Board Committees
Develops a statutory reporting plan/process per statute for information gathering and reporting as per regulatory requirements and communicates and obtains buy-in for this statutory reporting plan
Investigates, develops and submits timeous reports in response to regulatory enquiries
Acts as the central point provider of compliance assurance to the group audit committee, board, etc.
Drives and contributes to the definition, implementation and further development of a Compliance & Ethics programme across the Tiger Brands business
Leads the Group Financial Intelligent Centre Act and Anti-Money Laundering compliance programme and acts as AML Compliance Officer
Implements and maintains a systemised/technology driven approach to compliance and ethics risk management
Collaborates with Internal Audit function in the handling of ethics complaints including those routed through the Ethics line to ensure necessary and timely investigation, elevation and reporting
Maintains a central compliance complaints register of all serious and valid compliance related complaints and ensures that regular compliance audits are conducted
Leads the privacy compliance programme including acting as Deputy Information Officer in terms of POPI ActQualifications:ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:Competencies
  • Excellent understanding of the relevant laws, regulations and legal principles necessary to provide compliance & ethics services to the group
  • Ability to formulate and monitor implementable compliance solutions and processes based on a comprehensive understanding of legal and commercial issues at hand
  • Ability to update, inform, train the group, at the right level, on compliance-related issues and their impact to the businesses
  • Collaboration with an ability to engage, inspire and influence multiple stakeholders at all levels

Qualification & Experience
  • Law Degree (B Proc, LLB); Admitted Attorney / Advocate preferred
  • At least 8 years' experience in compliance-related management role, preferably in the consumer goods sector (of which the last 3 should be in a senior compliance position)
