Under the direct supervision of the Conservation Technology Manager, the intern will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day functions of the head office technology team. Ideal candidates should have basic IT skills, attention to detail and a passion for nature.
The following tasks may be required from the individual:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Record and summarise Technology WhatsApp group discussions
Manage technology survey data coming in from parks and regions on Survey123 or similar, and extract into a useful format for HO analyses. All checklists and monthly submissions from parks and regions to be gathered and consolidated into a single file for HO usage. Follow up e-mails will have to be sent to non-complying parks.
Manage and maintain the conservation technology status dashboard. This involves following up with park and regional tech personnel to confirm the listed status is valid.
Manage and maintain the technology staff organogram.
Monitor and deploy a network management dashboard. Training will be provided for this.
Manage the new ticketing system, together with park and regional tech personnel. Training e-mails and calls with parks will be essential.
Monitor Earth Ranger and assist with basic fault finding and maintenance. This will be done under supervision from the Earth Ranger superuser. User access across all the parks will also have to be verified, with confirmation e-mails from the relevant park personnel. Training will be provided for this.
Assist the conservation technology department and the geospatial department with GIS tasks. Training will be provided for this.
Manage Garmin devices on the various park Garmin accounts, and optimise device plans.
Manage and deploy smart phones to rangers. This includes setting up specific applications (potentially through a deployment platform), and ensuring the devices are secure.
Manage Starlink devices, and purchase new ones.
Reconcile technology invoices with credit card statements.
Assist with the procurement of technology. This includes tasks such as finding quotes, following up, inventory lists, etc.
Taking minutes at regular technology meetings.
Assisting with the technology departments travel admin.
Review technology documentation to ensure it is suitable.
JOB SPECIFICATION
A passion for wildlife and conservation is required
A matric certificate
A tertiary qualification is not required, but will be advantageous. Tertiary education or certification in a relevant field (environmental science, biology, data analysis, business, engineering or any related discipline) would be hugely advantageous
A proven record of self-improvement (additional courses, extramural activities, etc.) is required
Attention to detail and organisational skills essential
Microsoft office is essential (specifically Excel)
Fluency in English
Good report-writing skills
Valid driver's license
Strong personal integrity and dependability
Be a team player
A valid passport and willingness to travel to remote African countries may be required
