Construction Manager - Cape TownFull job descriptionThe Construction Manager will oversee construction projects within the petrochemical oil and gas industry, ensuring all operations comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and project timelines. This role involves leading a team of construction professionals, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring effective communication with clients and stakeholders.Responsibilities:Project Planning and Execution:Develop and manage project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.Oversee day-to-day construction operations, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.Ensure proper SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality) management on-site.Address potential issues proactively to avoid disruptions and ensure smooth project delivery.Coordinate site logistics (accommodation, transportation, offices, suppliers, etc.) within the control budget.Quality Control and Compliance:Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure all work meets industry standards and client expectations.Enforce compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks with statutory regulations, including OSHA and ISO standards (9001, 45001).Prepare and ensure timely reporting to management and stakeholders.Budget and Resource Management:Monitor project budgets and expenditures, providing regular updates to management and stakeholders.Manage construction resources, procurement of materials, equipment, and workforce.Ensure man-hours and site expenses align with control budgets, recommending cost-saving measures where possible.Collaboration and Communication:Liaise with clients and stakeholders, providing regular project updates and addressing changes in scope or concerns.Collaborate with internal departments (Operations, Safety, and Quality) to ensure coordination of activities.Maintain accurate project documentation, including reports, schedules, and change orders.Attend client meetings, and manage demobilization, including handling surplus materials/equipment.People Management:Manage staff-related matters such as recruitment, onboarding, contracts, performance management, and training in conjunction with HR.Establish a culture of open communication between staff, site management, and senior management.Resolve disputes, conflicts in line with agreements and legal regulationsSupervision and Leadership:Lead and supervise cross-functional teams, including sub-contractors.Provide training and development for team members, fostering a collaborative work environment.Promote company values: Synergy, Empowerment, Accountability, Integrity, Innovation, Continuous Improvement, and Simplicity.Requirements:Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction management within the oil & gas industry.Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).At least 5 - 10 years of experience in the petrochemical or oil & gas industry (non-negotiable).Registered as a Professional Construction Manager with SACPCMP, or eligible for registration.Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) and a National Diploma in Construction Management are preferred.Willingness to travel as needed for project locations.Knowledge & Experience :Extensive knowledge of Health, Safety, Environmental Management, and industry regulations.Familiarity with NEC, GCC, and FIDIC contracts is advantageous.Proficient in project management tools like MS Projects.Financial management skills, including budgeting, cost control, procurement, and forecasting.Experience in team recruitment, management, and labor-related practices.Hands-on experience in project resourcing, schedule development, and monitoring.Skills:Strong technical knowledge of construction processes and tools.Excellent leadership and team management skills.Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.Risk and crisis management experience, with the ability to assess and mitigate project risks.Contract management and negotiation skills.Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainable practices.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, fostering teamwork and collaboration.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.Competencies:Safety Orientation -
