Job Summary:

Work independently and supervise contractors and teams working at heights on different client sites within Africa. Responsible for controlling the projects within the allocated project timeframes, specifications and ensure teams comply to both quality and safety standards and regulations. Responsible for erection, maintenance on masts and assisting with instrument installations.

Educational & Knowledge Requirements:



Grade 12 or similar N4 or higher with technical drawing skills Valid driver's License Code 08 Minimum of 2 years in the construction industry with experience of supervising construction related projects Willing to work away from home for extended periods Pre-employment Medically fit certificate to work at heights and extreme weather conditions Technical or Civil Qualification Intermediate level in MS Office Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Construction Regulations

Core Functions:



Inspects work in progress to ensure conformity with QA/QC specifications and requirements, Industry Codes, Standards and Procedures, client requirements and provide technical incite on the subject matter. Provide technical support within Swire by advising the resource needs, procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specific times in order to conform to the workloads, plans and schedules. Supervise and conduct works scopes, such as site surveys, inspections, maintenance, installations and decommissioning of met masts and various additional works in accordance with relevant client requirements and technical specifications, within a high level of quality. Submit all supporting project documentation within the expected timelines as set out by company policies and client requests. Ensure accurate, timely recording and delivery of collection of work progress and reports in a high level of quality, during daily progress reports, work reports and Report on updates on the project developments to the Project Manager and escalate delays and critical issues as prescribed by company policy. Work with Project Managers by coordinating and planning projects according to customer requirements, to achieve project outcomes and deadlines. Obtain required stakeholder approvals as required to manage the project progression and complete allocated tasks, escalate delays and critical risks as prescribed. Control and maintain tools, equipment and required resources allocated to your projects, in line with company policies and procedures, while controlling project costs and expenses. Control and coordinate teams, to compete work scopes on various construction sites within the required deadlines, by sustaining work efficiency and productivity of the teams until project completion. Ensure that all construction activities within the designated areas are well planned, coordinated while utilizing all available resources in coordination with Project Managers in directing and supervising all involved site personnel and subcontractors. Monitor and control team's work quality and effectiveness in and around work scopes and provide feedback to management. Control, analysis and report on all safety aspects on project and provide written reports on any discrepancies therewith. Complies with the highest level of quality, health, safety and environmental standards during all stages of project execution and pro?active with safety groups and subcontractors to promote safe and hazardous free work within the designated area.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

1. Supervise and conduct work in progress to ensure conformity with QA/QC and Client specifications by:

Reviewing engineering drawings and analyzing the work scopes required.

Preparing PICW checklists for tools, materials and equipment needed for the daily tasks.

Compiling scope documentation and work instructions for site use and transferring technical knowledge to subordinates to complete tasks in accordance with standards.

2. Complete and submit administrative documents during projects, to ensure smooth transition of the projects. Accurately and timeously collect and record project updates and developments, compile and complete work reports. Submit all project documents to the various departments within the timelines, including:

Complete Petty Cash Requests, Recons and supporting documentation for purchases and procurement in line with company policies.

Complete Site Diaries/ Daily Reports on the work progress for each day and submit to the Operations Department for review.

Ensure time sheets are filled out correctly and accurately for each day for subordinates all and are submitted weekly.

Compile relevant evidence for down time during projects and advise Line Manager appropriately of daily planning.

Complete Work Reports with all required information on relevant scopes and submit within the time frames agreed.

Ensure that all relevant photos, data and sign offs are recorded before leaving sites.

3. Plan and coordinate projects with Coordinators to manage deadlines. Keep relevant stakeholders informed of progress and planning such as:

Informing Landowners, Lead Techs and/or Client Relationship Officers before mobilizing to site.

Immediately highlight critical issues and potential delays to work scopes to Management to manage Stakeholder expectations.

4. Provide support to Management by controlling and maintaining tools, equipment and required resources allocated to your projects, in line with company policies and procedures by advising on resources and procurement needs during projects, in the form of:

PICW checklists for tools, materials and equipment needed for daily tasks are prepared.

Inspect and report on the condition and serviceability of safety equipment, rigging gear and relevant tools of the trade in a timeous manner.

Inspect and ensure all measurement & critical equipment is within calibration/ test date before use and advise accordingly.

Controlling tools and equipment during projects by ensuring all tools, equipment & materials are properly issued returned on completion of the projects, in good condition.

Identify and procurement of required tools & materials for projects material procurement during projects with Line Manger.

5. Control and coordinate teams, to compete work scopes on various construction sites within the required deadlines, while monitoring and managing team's effectiveness in and around work scopes, including:

Assist with minor conflict resolution and escalate matters HR and Head of Operations if required.

Couch and mentor subordinates working under your supervision.

Assist with performance reviews and team feedback to Management Staff.

Provide technical support and pass on knowledge to subordinates.

Manage time management and behavior of team on site.

Enforcing site rules and regulations with team on site and maintaining first line discipline.

Report, in writing, on progress and development of subordinates to Project Coordinators.

6. Control, analysis and report on all safety aspects on project and provide written reports on any discrepancies therewith, including highest level of quality on health, safety and environmental standards during all stages of project execution. Ensure pro?activity with safety groups and subcontractors to promote safe and hazardous free work within the designated area by:

Conduct daily toolbox talks/safe alerts with teams and ensure that is signed off by team members and place on the Safety file.

Check that the team, and casuals have their required PPE before commencing their work.

Maintain Health and Safety File which includes registers, checklist and appointments are signed.

Ensure RAMS are communicated with team members and signed before commencing the project.

Report on any fault findings regarding Health and Safety File.

Log near misses/good catches as prescribed by the Project KPI's.

Conduct on-site HIRA of projects and communicate findings to SHEQ officer.

Participate in Health and Safety Audits both internally and externally.

Escalate Health and Safety complaints and escalate queries to the Head of HSE and SHEQ Officer.

Ensure that site works conducted complies with the Health and Safety legislation (OHSA 85 of 1993 & Regulations) and other legal requirements.

Assist with compiling investigation reports and assist with drawing up preventative actions.

7. Perform ad hoc duties from time to time, as requested.
