Job Title: Construction Health & Safety Officer Location: Richards Bay, KZNPosition Type: Fixed Term ContractJob Summary:The Occupational/Construction Health and Safety (OHS) Officer will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment at our heavy industrial manufacturing plant. This role involves implementing and managing comprehensive health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and promoting a culture of safety among all employees.Key Responsibilities:1. Safety Program Management:xc2xb7 Develop, implement, and maintain OHS policies, procedures, and programs.xc2xb7 Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.xc2xb7 Collaborate with management to establish safety goals and objectives.2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:xc2xb7 Perform risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate measures to mitigate risks.xc2xb7 Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.3. Regulatory Compliance:xc2xb7 Ensure compliance with local, provincial and global OHS regulations.xc2xb7 Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory bodies.xc2xb7 Keep up-to-date with changes in safety regulations and standards.4. Training and Education:xc2xb7 Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.xc2xb7 Promote safety awareness and culture through ongoing communication and training initiatives.xc2xb7 Ensure that all employees are informed of OHS policies and procedures.5. Emergency Response:xc2xb7 Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.xc2xb7 Coordinate and conduct emergency drills to ensure preparedness.xc2xb7 Act as a key contact in case of emergencies, providing guidance and support.6. Record Keeping and Reporting:xc2xb7 Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training.xc2xb7 Prepare regular reports on safety performance and present findings to management.xc2xb7 Analyse safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.7. Continuous Improvement:xc2xb7 Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in OHS practices.xc2xb7 Benchmark against industry best practices and incorporate them into the plants safety programs.xc2xb7 Encourage employee involvement in safety programs and initiatives.Qualifications & Requirements:xc2xb7 Construction Health and Safety Agent PrCHSA / Construction Health and Safety Manager CHSM/ Construction Health and Safety Officer CHSOxc2xb7 Minimum of 5 years of experience in OHS within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.xc2xb7 Strong understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.xc2xb7 Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.xc2xb7 Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.xc2xb7 Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.xc2xb7 Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work.Work Environment:xc2xb7 This position is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing plant.xc2xb7 Candidates must be able to work in a noisy, high-energy environment and comply with all safety regulations.xc2xb7 Occasional travel may be required to other facilities or project sites.
