Job Description

This role is an independent contractor role where we require the individual to come to our offices for Training in the first week and twice a week for meetings/ team collaboration while the rest of the role is to be completed remotely.

This role is R15 000 per project. This is very important to note.

As a Copy Editor, you will enhance the quality and effectiveness of written content, ensuring it meets high standards of clarity, coherence, and accuracy. Your primary focus will be on refining text by improving grammar, punctuation, style, and readability.

Strong AI skills is required in this role to achieve the outcome of the project

Educational Background



Degree Requirements

: A bachelor's degree in

English, Journalism, Communications

, or a related field is required.

Experience



Relevant Experience

: Prior experience in

copy editing, proofreading, or writing

is highly valued. Relevant experience can be gained through internships, freelance work, or positions in media, marketing, or publishing fields.

Portfolio

: A portfolio showcasing examples of edited work is essential, demonstrating proficiency in editing various types of content commonly produced within the South African market.

Experience in working with Artificial Intelligence will be advantageous

Experience as a copy editor in the

Editing Skills

: A strong understanding of

grammar, punctuation, and South African English

language rules, including familiarity with style guides (e.g., AP, Chicago, South African Press Code).

Attention to Detail

: Meticulous in identifying and correcting errors, ensuring content consistency.

: Excellent command of English, including vocabulary, tone, and usage relevant to the South African context.

Consistency

: Ability to maintain consistent tone, style, and formatting across documents, keeping content accessible and relatable to a South African audience.

: Competence in fact-checking information for accuracy, particularly relevant in South African news, education, and cultural contexts.

Communication

: Strong written and verbal communication skills, essential for working with local writers and stakeholders.

Time Management

: Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Proofreading

: Proven ability to proofread educational content

Technical Proficiency



Editing Software

: Proficiency in

Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat

, and knowledge of track changes features.

Other Requirements
