The core responsibilities of the position include:
Act as the primary liaison between the Crane Service Provider and the department.
Collaborate with the crane service provider and ensure that all overhead cranes on site are maintained as per the planned work schedule, including load testing and rope replacements.
Attending to all crane-related breakdowns: Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation and performing planned work as per schedule.
Assuming a leadership role whilst on shift, attend and contribute to monthly meetings with the Crane Service Provider and Central.
Responsible for maintenance and refurbishment of spares to repair breakdowns.
Fault finding in various fields, including - Electrical, Mechanical Fitting, PLC's, Variable Speed Drives, Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
Implement cost-effective maintenance strategies and develop a scope of work for crane maintenance and repairs.
Actively participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) related to cranes.
Working as a member of the team, ensuring overall plant objectives are achieved in terms of production, safety, quality, and plant reliability.
Verify the crane service schedule with the planner and ensure it is executed; conduct crane audits, reviewing the quality and completeness of work being performed.
Escalate unresolved concerns to Engineering Management.
Ensure proper documentation of crane-related work, including Crane Files, Work Orders, and Purchase Requisitions for callouts and crane register compliance are maintained.
Load and close out work orders for crane maintenance orders and completed crane tasks.
The requirements of the position may include:
Matric and a minimum N3 level.
Have a minimum of five years of post-apprenticeship experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Successfully trade-tested in a recognised institution.
Overhead crane maintenance experience.
The ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings will be an added advantage.
Competent with isolation and lock-out procedures
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work on overhead cranes, electro-pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, basic instrumentation and basic auto electrical equipment will be an added advantage
Familiar with Maximo or similar CMM systems.
Ability to interface with people of diverse professions within the organisation.
A strong ability to work independently and actively participate in reliability and problem-solving forums.
Preparedness to work overtime and standby.
A willingness to obtain an LMI qualification.
