Job Description


Applies academic knowledge to develop the Anthropology/History/Sociology and
artefacts collection and lead and exhibition programme at the Local History Museums
through alignment and monitoring the execution of the work programme.
Key Responsibility Areas

  • Undertake the execution of key project deliverables and the outcomes thereof
associated with the Library and Heritage Department.
  • Co-ordinate and controls tasks/ activities associated with controlling personnel
key performance indicators and outcomes, productivity and discipline.
  • Ensure that all Heritage Buildings and Heritage Assets are in compliance
preventative conservation restoration measures as prescribed by the relevant
Provincial and National Heritage Bodies.
  • Advises and provides input into the planning and co-ordination of capital and
operational estimates and expenditure against approved budget allocations for
strategic project and programmes
  • Conduct on-going research on various aspects of the Museum collections with
the view of ensuring that there is knowledge production and such knowledge is
disseminated through various platforms.
  • Responsible for inclusive development of artefacts/ artworks for the LHM
collections and annual updates on the Museums collections Management.
  • Applies knowledge of broader Heritage related disciplines and the curatorial
principals of size, accessibility, security, environment and location of storage to
access, evaluate and maintain best practice in relation to the LHM collection
facilities.
  • Applying measures and actions aimed at avoiding and minimizing future
deterioration or loss strategies in order to eliminate or prevent the potential
threat of damage to artefacts/ artworks.
  • Aligns and monitors the execution of applications and procedures associated
with the acquisition, preventative preservation and exhibition of artefacts.
  • Disseminates the Museum and collections information with regards to
objectives, trends and current developments, problems and constraints
  • Activity related information verification, approvals and functional reports.
(MUSEOGRAPHY MUSEUM PRACTICE) Museography is essentially defined as the
practical or applied aspect of museology.
  • Ensure that all museum sites comply with the Health and Safety Act and
standards as prescribed.
  • Ensure that all museum sites have an approved Disaster Management plans.
  • Assist in the identification and preservation of Heritage Assets within the City
such as historical graves, historical plagues and historical monuments.

Essential Requirements
  • Postgraduate Diploma (NQF Level 8) in one of the following fields Anthropology
and/or History and Sociology.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license
  • 4 Years relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements
  • Masters Degree (NQF Level 9) in the one of the following fields Anthropology
and/or History and Sociology.
  • 5 Years relevant experience.
