Job Description


Are you an outstanding analyst of data, able to manipulate large data sets in Excel and other software to produce client-ready insights?The data analyst will play an important role in leading the data process for our primary research, capital markets and other data-intensive projects. The data will be a mix of market research data, financial markets data, and sets of economic data. Your task will be to ensure robust end-to-end data processing leading to outputs ready for client delivery.The ideal candidate has extensive experience using large data sets to find insights and opportunities to enable business growth for our clients. We are looking for a detail-oriented, creative problem-solver who has proven capability to deliver business insights drawn from data, demonstrates a fundamental understanding of such data and effectively communicate the outputs to clients and other stakeholders.Qualifications

  • At least an undergraduate degree in accounting, statistics, econometrics, data science. A master's degree in data science, business analytics would be an advantage.
Experience
  • At least five years in research, data analysis and data management or a similar role, preferably within the financial services sector. This include running surveys and working intensively with large data sets in Excel spreadsheets. Experience in having worked on different, dynamic projects will be an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an eye for seeing the end outcome required from the design phase. Special focus on troubleshooting data issues and optimising data workflows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and engaging clearly with clients. Experience working on data projects requiring collaboration with cross-functional teams and different business units.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques and introduce efficiencies into the system.
Economic, banking and financial knowledge
  • Understanding of fundamental economic concepts, theories and principles which are critical for analysing and interpreting data. Economic indicators (GDP, Inflation, Interest rates etc), theories and models (supply and demand, Keynesian economics, Monetarism, Behavioural economics etc), financial economics (capital markets, bonds, shares).
  • Understanding banking operations and financial products (loans, credit cards, mortgages, VAF etc.).
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements (such as Basel III) and understanding of financial statements (Income statements, Balance sheets, Cashflow statements etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience with financial data types and data models/software in economics, banking, capital markets (Stata, Eviews, Matlab, Refinitiv, Bloomberg etc.).
Technical skillsEssential:
  • Excellent Excel skills from basic functions and pivot tables to macros.
  • Ability to produce professionally appealing client outputs (graphs, tables, reports etc.) of data which are insightful and value-adding.
Added advantages:
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, scripting, and automation. Understanding of Bash or PowerShell for scripting tasks.
  • Data visualisation xe2x80x93 experience with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker for reporting and visualisation.
  • Data management - experience with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
  • Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Integration xe2x80x93 experience working with APIs for data integration and familiarity with tools like MuleSoft or Apache Kafka for data streaming.
Data governance and security
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and practices (data lineage, metadata management).
  • Understanding of data privacy and security protocols (encryption, masking, anonymisation etc.).
  • Experience working within regulated environments with strict data management (handling and integrity) and reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Act as primary custodian of research data in our business.
  • Support the research teams by ensuring data integrity and quality.
  • Work with team members to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions for our clients and new potential clients.
  • Mine and analyse data from primary research or existing data sets.
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyse model performance and data accuracy.
  • Introduce up to date innovative systems to constantly add efficiencies to our systems.
