Role Purpose

The Data Analyst is responsible for executing, on a daily basis, oversight of the reports from the data infrastructure. This will include but will not be limited to the collation, administration and classification of static data and quality control of the data products. In addition, the data analyst is responsible for understanding and analysing data within the data infrastructures, subsequent running and oversight of reports for the purpose of relevant statutory reporting and other client reporting. The Data Analyst is also responsible for testing of newly developed datasets, reports and dashboards.

Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Computer Science or a similar qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a data warehouse or reporting environment.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of using MS Access queries to analyse data.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of using MS Excel advanced functions including pivot tables.
  • Knowledge and experience of SQL Scripts and the ability to read and modify existing SQL scripts is an advantage.
  • Good understanding of the workings and structure of relational databases.
  • Comfortable with working with large volumes of data, specifically from the point of view of analysis and manipulation in order to get it into a useable format, and to do meaningful MIS reporting on said data.
  • Proven working experience in or at least knowledge of a Change Control environment.
  • The ability to identify errors and non-sequential data.
Duties & Responsibilities

Perspective: Process
  • Generating of reports using legacy data architecture.
  • Quality control of data products published.
  • Testing of data products after development.
  • Facilitating of user acceptance testing (UAT) with data clients.
  • Identifying and logging defect tickets for the developers.
  • Requesting the implementation of quality control measures such as accuracy rules to ensure data integrity is maintained across the data products.
  • Ensure that all instruments are classified daily according to the Schedule IB, Non-Compliance, SARB, FSB, Dividend Withholding tax, Reg28 requirements.
  • Provide and assist the different business units or data team with gathering, collating understanding and analysing data for new functionality or reporting purposes.
  • Development of process flows for timely distribution of information to various stakeholders.
  • Assisting in the management of data/information (reports) flow into and out of the department.
  • Extraction, organization and representation of required data for statistical analysis.
  • Complete data mining, analysis, and presentation for projects as required.
  • Focus on solutions, dive into projects, quickly identify drivers in the data.
  • Identify relevant trends, do follow up analysis, prepare visualizations.

  • All elements of reporting provided are fully considered and clients are made aware where limitations exist in the information and analysis of such at all times.
  • Ensure effective relationships and SLA management with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform Ad-hoc and ongoing MIS and client reporting (both for internal and external clients).

  • To act as a liaison between the various business units and developers.

Competencies
  • Working familiarity with the MS Office suite of tools (Access & Excel).
  • Self-starter must be productive with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, technical, cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent visual design sense regarding clear and accurate presentation of data.
  • Experience in the Financial industry, preferably within an asset management/multi manager environment, with an understanding of multi manager portfolio structures.
  • Regulatory knowledge around SARB and Reg 28 reporting.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Teamwork orientation and the ability to work independently.
