Job Advert Summary

Purpose:
  • To ensure data is managed according to data governance requirements
  • To ensure the availability of accurate Key Performance Indicators on a value chain level as required by business to support efficient and effective production planning, optimization and reporting
  • To enable effective in time decision making facilitating year on year improvements through data management
  • Ensure data is integrated and managed in a manner that ensures and maintains a single version version of the truth, available in the required time frame and aligned to business processes to enable citizen report building
  • To ensure stable, accurate data flows and alignment between the data marts

Minimum Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BSc Engineering (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum or)
  • BSc Computer Science (Essential/Minimum or)
  • BEng Engineering (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum or)
  • BEng Computer Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate First Line Management (Essential/Minimum)
EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years Relevant experience within a heavy industry, mining, production environment. Knowledge of development processes. With proven technical aptitude in one or more application programming domain. Ability to work in Agile and non-Agile environments. With a minimum of 3-5 years experience in using data to empower better decision making, through reporting, analyses and models. Need to have a good understanding of data and the business (Essential/Minimum) Operational
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Certificate in SQL Database Coding (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
  • Competence: Simulation Modelling (Essential/Minimum)
  • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
  • Competence: MS Office Relevant Package (Essential/Minimum)
  • Competence: Discipline Specific Program (Recommended/Desirable)


Duties & Responsibilities

Data Delivery
  • Drive the data strategy implementation
  • Ensure master and reference data that supports the data owners area of control is appropriately managed to support effective consolidation, aggregation and integration of data
  • Identify and document critical data assets within the business of accountability
  • Responsible for the maintenance data measures and Key Performance Areas (KPIs) required by any reporting using this areas KPIs
  • Ensure relevant reports are built correctly and relevant maintenance thereof
  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of governance around data structure, data flow and reporting to ensure a robust data set usable by all
  • Responsible for the implementation of all relevant data forums
  • Inputs and logic support on the architecture, design, and implementation for automated analytics and reporting to support the business unit. Ensuring data is useable in business context
  • Uses the organizational data blueprint provided by the data architect to gather, store, and prepare the data in a framework from which the data scientist and data analyst work
  • Supporting IM in building and testing maintainable Enterprise Data Architectures that is supporting the data strategy

Data Governance
  • Ensure data governance that allows agility through DevOps way of work
  • Manage "one version of the truth", big picture database & data logic (Ensure no duplication of KPIs between DMs)
  • Run and facilitate all data forums
  • Ensure governance and process is in place and remains relevant as technology changes
  • Ensure data flow logic consistent in all areas (in support of/with IM architecture and reporting governance)
  • Ensure data flow logic is visible and simple to use to anyone needing to build a report
  • Ownership of one version of truth between different data bases

Data Management
  • Authorise data definitions, changes to data and the use of data i.e. access approval
  • Ensure that vital business records are classified according to security requirements and categorised within the appropriate data themes
  • Identify data stakeholder roles, organisations, processes and applications
  • Ensure any new systems designed adequately address data integrity, data quality, data privacy and security risks
  • Ensure information risks, incidents or events, issues and control weaknesses are identified and communicated in a manner that allows timely corrective action to be taken
  • Focused on the day-to-day tasks of cleaning, wrangling, and preparing data for other data consumers, such as data scientists and citizen report builders
  • Key enabler to the integrated operations centre for data scientists and analysts in assessing and aligning data requirements for the BU, and in updating / modernising data visualisation feeds

Effective People Management
  • Gives guidance to those performing the role of Data Custodians and Developers
  • Works with Data Custodian to ensure business requirements are implemented as intended
  • Ensure an optimised team structure is manned by staff that is motivated, empowered and lead by sound performance management and transformational leadership practices
  • Promote teamwork, provide support and manage performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans of subordinates
  • Assume responsibility for managing manpower, efficient resource allocation, and declaration of competence and reduction of operating cost

Performance Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Translates business need into Code to ensure value adding user stories
  • Drive research and development initiatives to ensure continuous improvement and enhanced performance
  • Keep abreast of new developments and ensure potential threats within designated area is identified and addressed timeously
  • Benchmark plant/mining activities and track performance to indicate improvement opportunities
  • Ensuring relevant dashboards available for shift change caucuses & any other relevant forum where data is required for performance management and decision making

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures in line with set standards
