It further aims to promote equity, career development and progression.Data Science InternshipINTERN (1 Post)Duration: One-Year ContractThe SAMRC extends an invite to graduates to apply and participate in an internship programme in the South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN)The SAMRC South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN) unit is recruiting for an intern (data scientist) to learn and contribute to the management, maintenance, and development of the Unit's data system. The incumbent of this internship will play a role in developing, implementing, and maintaining procedures and systems to curate the data contributed by the network of HDSS Nodes comprising SAPRIN and to enable the optimal use of this resource by data users, both internally to SAPRIN, and externally by the broader national and international scientific community.Min Qualification:

  • A honours level qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Statistics or related discipline.
  • Solid interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to define, analyse and resolve problems.
  • Willingness to learn.
Other criteria: Applicants must have basic knowledge of SQL, Statistical Analysis software e.g., SAS, Stata, R, and programming in Julia, Python or any other high-level language.Note that shortlisted candidates will undergo a competency test on the basic knowledge of the programs mentioned.Terms & Conditions: The SAMRC retains the right not to make an appointment.
