Assist the surgeon during oral and maxillofacial procedures, including Surgical extractions, implants, bone grafting, and trauma and pathology related surgeries.
Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and treatment rooms in compliance with infection control and sterilization protocols.
Take and develop digital X-rays and CBCT scans as required.
Administer pre- and post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers.
Follow-up with patients' post-treatment.
Manage suction, irrigation, and retractors during procedures for optimal visibility.
Monitor patients during sedation procedures and assist in emergency protocols if required.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms
Support front desk tasks as needed (e.g., scheduling appointments, answering phones)
Completion and submission of theatre list daily
Patient Care & Administration:
Welcome patients and prepare them for surgical or non-surgical treatment.
Obtain and document Patient account forms, medical history, consent forms, and treatment plans.
Educate patients on post-operative care and pain management.
Assist with scheduling follow-up appointments and coordinating with referring dentists/specialists.
Equipment & Inventory Management:
Maintain and track surgical instruments, materials, and medication stock levels.
Ensure the proper functioning of dental and surgical equipment, reporting any maintenance needs.
Assist in managing sterilization and infection control standards in compliance with HPCSA regulations.
Requirements:
1 - 2 years years' experience as a dental assistant, Surgical assistant experience a benefit
Relevant Dental Assistant Qualification and registration (HPCSA)
Must be able to speak English and Afrikaans
Driver's License and own transport required
