The remit will cover 40 countries in the SSA region and incumbent will, in his geographical area of responsibility:

  • Lead security compliance with the global and regional security standards.
  • Manage and be accountable for the security investigation activities, and ensure investigations are properly started, performed and closed.
  • Oversee and support all security operations in conjunction with country security teams
  • Continuously improve security processes and procedures, and update the relevant standards
  • Lead customer security activities
  • Acts as subject-matter expert for security to support country management teams or functional groups in the region
Key ResponsibilitiesDHL Customers
  • Functionally lead the security management for the countries in his/her geographical area of responsibility
  • Engage with customers where required in his/her geographical area of responsibility for the implementation of customer security programs and alignment of those with DHL security programs
  • Proactively formulate ways to enhance the security of shipments and processes, and Manage implementation there of
  • Proactively Manage all activities required for the investigation and resolution of security incidents
Law Enforcement, Security Officials, Local Authorities & Regulatory Bodies, Police, Customs
  • Takes the lead on liaison and regular engagement with law enforcement and other regulatory authorities to provide assistance and support and to highlight DHLs strong support of such Authorities within his geographical area of responsibility. Position DHL as a leading partner in this respect.
Support to
  • Vice President Operations Sub Sahara Africa Functionally lead the execution of the relevant parts of the security program within the geographical field of responsibility for this role
  • Draws up recommendations and provides input on change requirements for global or regional security standards
  • Support, train and advise DHL staff in all matters pertaining to security awareness, policies, procedures, precautions, investigations and other related security matters in his/her geographical area of responsibility
  • Manages the handling of what are often complex legal, personnel and procedural issues and minimize DHLs exposure to liability in any civil or criminal actions that may result from the incidents investigated.
Country SMT
  • Engage with country management teams to ensure country security managers obtain the required support for the execution of security operations and compliance in the country
Country and Entity Security Managers
  • Manage execution of the security operations as per the regional security program within his/her area
  • Influence country and entity security activities to achieve a common protection level in line with the DHL security standards and programs
  • Ensure timely and effective follow-up with DHL Network on security issues and problems
  • Provide security updates to the countries and the Network as appropriate
  • Oversees security activities across countries and divisions for matters relating to the his/her area when required and appropriate
Operations: Customer Ops Support Group, etc.
  • Engage with relevant country COG groups in customer security process matters for his/her area to ensure all aspects of customer support are dealt with in a timely and professional manner with regards to security
CSI/MNC Sales Groups
  • Engage with the commercial departments regarding all security/loss related requirements put forward by customers as a part of tendering processes to ensure compliance with these requirements or to work with the customer on developing mutually acceptable security solutions
  • Ensure that commercial departments specific security issues are professionally handled and responded to within his/her area
Customer Service Depts. / Claims Depts.
  • Lead and Manage the use of the Security Incident Database (SID)/Security Case Management System (SCMS) in order to ensure security incidents reported by customers get logged and treated
  • Proactively liaise with account desks with respect to claims filed by customers to understand issues at hand and improve security program efficiency
Root cause analysis
  • Lead risk and threat assessments within his/her geographical area of responsibility on a regular basis and/or when security conditions change
  • Manage the application of analytical processes to gauge losses, to estimate the probability of occurrence and the financial impact in order to take corrective action and prevent a recurrence
Security Audits
  • Conduct both periodic and ad hoc security audits and security assessments to ensure full compliance with all operational and security policies, procedures and initiatives in his/her geographical area
  • Proactively and regularly review, highlight and manage all aspects of DHLs operations in his/herarea which may pose a threat to staff safety, company assets and customer shipments
  • Support continuous security assessment and target hardening of facilities, new products and services; and the establishment of security standards, policies and practices to protect all DHL personnel, property, revenue and other assets within their geographical area of responsibility
Security Issue Resolution, Investigations
  • Lead investigation efforts to ensure that all incidents or losses are thoroughly and professionally investigated, that the causes are identified and that the appropriate measures are taken to minimize and prevent a reoccurrence. Ensure that any resources available to DHL in terms of asset or shipment recovery are utilized and that legal action is initiated where appropriate
  • Develop security solutions in support of issues/requests raised by both countries and customers
  • Conduct investigations into the losses of company assets and or customers shipment carried by DHL, take the appropriate action to identify the suspect(s), and minimizes the losses
Security Incident Database/Security Case Management System
  • Ensure SSA country security managers comply with the business requirements of SID/SCMS
BPO instruction and processing
  • Ensure regional facility and procedural compliance with TAPA audit guidelines
  • Manage TAPA certification initiatives in the SSA region
Security Training Development
  • Functionally lead and management of development and implementation of specialist training for country and entity security management in the effective discharge of investigative and other related duties
Minimum RequirementsEducation & experience
  • Bachelor degree in security or demonstrated field leadership in a knowledge worker environment organization. Masters degree is preferable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of security management experience with at least 5 years experience in the Express or transportation and/or logistics industry

  • Willingness to travel (can be up to 70% in certain periods), including travel at very short notice

  • In depth knowledge of express operations processes preferred
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Good command of spoken French is recommended
