UWC Sport is an essential component for both the recreational and competitive development of student graduate attributes.Applications for the post of Director: Sports Administration are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons, who have the vision and drive to advance the status and impact of various sporting codes al the University of the Western Cape, in line with strategic imperatives.The successful incumbent will be expected to, inter alia:

  • Ensure the strategic development of the Sports Administration Department, and to advance the status and impact of the various sporting codes, in line with the Institutional Operating Plan (IOP);
  • Ensure the achievement of the Department's functional objectives, through effective leadership, and by setting clear objectives in order to maximize individual, divisional and departmental performance (organisational culture, values and reputation aligned to the UWC IOP);
  • Design, establish, and maintain the organisational structure and associated staffing, in order to effectively accomplish the department's strategic goals and objectives; including recruitment, training, supervision, and performance management;
  • Develop, review, and report on the Sports Administration Department's strategy, ensuring that strategic objectives are well understood and executed by the various stakeholders;
  • Develop and lead the Department in sourcing, managing and implementing new opportunities;
  • Ensure that strategic and tactical management decisions and new business development initiatives undertaken in respect of all sport codes, especially priority codes, impact on the financial sustainability of these codes;
  • Liaise with internal and external clients and partners to create a diversified financial base through opportunities of fundraising and sponsorships which ls strongly aligned to the strategic plans of the various sporting codes;
  • Recommend and participate in the development of University policies and procedures; may serve on university planning and policy-making committees;
  • Represent the University to various institutional divisions and sporting organizations, as well as externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, and/or the general public/local community;
  • Ensure the strategic management and development of sport facilities and support services.
Minimum RequirementsQualification and Experience:
  • Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification (NQF 9)
  • A minimum 10 years' relevant experience at a managerial level, with extensive knowledge and experience in the strategic management of multiple sporting codes
  • Extensive knowledge of and engagement with regional, provincial and national sport structures
  • Record of successful recruitment of athletes and coaches, as well as the initiation of partnership/sponsorship agreements
  • Proven record of good financial and operational planning and management
