Job Description


Purpose of the RoleThe core responsibility of the Accountant will be to administer the accounting needs of the company, including the preparation of Financial Statements and Reports, Banking, and Tax Returns through the implementation of a clearly defined accounting plan.Key Responsibilities & DutiesThe role and responsibility of the Accountant is to at least cover the following:

  • Processing of cashbooks and petty cash of the group.
  • Review of allocation of supplier payments and customer receipts.
  • Reconciliation of all cashbooks in the group.
  • Credit card submissions, slips and reconciliations are received and accurate.
  • Prepare cash flow and forecast daily.
  • Assist (when necessary) to generate purchase orders and processing of invoices
  • Assist in ensuring that all supplier invoices are SARS compliant.
  • Review of monthly local and foreign supplier reconciliations, ensuring that all discrepancies are dealt with timeously.
  • Review payment reconciliation and loading payments thereof.
  • Ensure recharges to group companies are completed monthly.
  • Maintenance of details of supplier and customer accounts.
  • Maintaining supplier age analysis ensuring this is complete and accurate.
  • Foreign purchases paperwork is maintained.
  • Managing relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Balancing intercompany loans/debtors/creditors.
  • Assist (when necessary) with quotation and invoicing in line with group pricing.
  • Assist with maintenance of the customer master pricing list
  • Review of monthly reconciliation for debtors (customers).
  • Preparation of monthly billing calculations for customers.
  • Maintenance of finance lease schedules for customers.
  • Ensure that timeous debt collection is performed on all accounts.
  • Preparation of revaluation calculations for all foreign balances.
  • Preparation and posting of monthly and yearly journals.
  • Maintain the group of companies fixed asset register and intangible asset register ensuring this balance to the trial balance.
  • Quarterly preparation of balance sheet reconciliations for the group.
  • Review of monthly stock variances and report any discrepancies.
  • Perform monthly/ quarterly and yearly spot checks during stock counts.
  • Assist with obtaining relevant B-BBEE/ Affidavit certificates.
  • Assist with the B-BBEE process and audit to ensure the company reaches the required target levels.
  • Ensure FICA compliance with all stakeholders (customers and suppliers).
  • Assist with the preparation of any SARS audit.
  • Liaising with external auditors to ensure the smooth running of the audit.
  • Ensure the Group is compliant with IFRS for SME.
  • Review the general ledger transactions along with the monthly review of management accounts.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly reporting management accounts for the group.
  • Preparation of reports required for reporting of results.
  • Prepare variance analysis with the reporting accounts
  • Preparation of the relevant tax calculations:
  • VAT reconciliation and returns (monthly and yearly).
  • EMP Reconciliation and returns (monthly and yearly).
  • Provisional Tax (bi-annual).
  • Income tax (yearly).
  • Maintaining logistics and paperwork relevant to imports and exports.
  • Maintenance and submission of all gaming board approvals and notifications.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to finance policies, procedures, and systems across all teams.
  • Leadership and mentoring of Junior Staff.
  • Any other ad hoc task within reason.
Minimum Requirements
  • Completed BCom Accounting Degree.
  • Studying towards or looking to study further their studies.
  • Knowledge of Tax legislation and practical experience.
  • SAGE Evolution experience will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience in inventory are advantageous.
  • SAIPA or SAICA articles would be advantageous.
