Reports to: Mining Manager/ General Manager
Primary Purpose: The Drilling and Blasting Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing all drilling and blasting operations at [insert job site type, e.g., mining/quarry/construction site]. This includes ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant drilling and blasting operations. The role also involves collaboration with project managers, geologists, and site supervisors to execute projects within the required safety, cost, and quality standards.Job description / core competencies:Drilling Operations:Coordinate and supervise drilling activities in compliance with project requirements.Ensure the accurate layout and depth of drill holes based on the project plan.Maintain drilling equipment and ensure all tools and machinery are in good working condition.Blasting Design and Execution:Design blast patterns to maximize rock fragmentation while minimizing environmental impact.Calculate charge weights, hole spacing, and timing sequences based on geological assessments and project specifications.Oversee the loading and detonation of explosives while adhering to safety regulations and environmental standards.Safety and Compliance:Enforce strict safety protocols, ensuring compliance.Conduct risk assessments and implement procedures to minimize risk of accidents.Document and report all incidents or near-misses related to drilling and blasting.Monitoring and Reporting:Monitor and evaluate the performance of drilling and blasting operations, making adjustments as necessary to improve efficiency and safety.Keep accurate records of materials, equipment usage, and production rates.Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports to track project progress and report to management.Environmental Considerations:Manage and minimize noise, vibration, dust, and fly-rock hazards.Ensure that all blasting activities comply with environmental guidelines to protect surrounding areas.Location (city, province): Northern CapeJob Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Education:Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).Experience: 2+ years in a drilling and blasting role, preferably within mining or construction.Certification: Blasting license and/or explosives handling certification as required by [insert local regulatory authority or region].Skills:Strong knowledge of drilling and blasting techniques, explosives handling, and safety regulations.Ability to read and interpret geological maps and project blueprints.Proficient in blast design software.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and teamwork abilities.Company Description:
