Job Summary Requirements The specific engineering responsibilities include studies, designs, coordination, and completion of projects on time within budget, and within scope. In collaboration with the engineering team and depending on the size of the project, the candidate must be able to oversee all aspects of projects from the concept study phase, through feasibility studies, detail design, execution, and commissioning. Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor and manage project progress. Prepare reports for upper management regarding the status of the project. Prepare proposals and interact with team members, sub-consultants, and clients. The candidate will work in a team and with clients to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. He or she will coordinate with other departments to ensure all aspects of each project are compatible and assist with the identification of new and innovative solutions to the clients needs. It would be expected of the candidate to lead designs and ensuring compliance to regulations and standards and following good engineering practices. This includes the designing of renewable and electrical energy systems, accurately estimating project costings, accurately calculating system production and ensuring the designed systems are effective, integrated and robust during operations. Responsibilities Broad understanding of electrical and renewable infrastructure systems, mining infrastructure requirements, commercial construction industry practices, construction contracts, and budget/schedule management. etc. Good interpersonal and people management, together with a strong desire to lead projects. Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant internal stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility. Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress. Manage changes to the project scope and project schedule using appropriate verification techniques. Collaborate with design engineers to develop and review electrical engineering designs, ensuring compliance with specifications and regulations. Report and escalate concerns to management as needed. Manage the relationship with the client and relevant stakeholders. Perform risk management to minimize potential risks. Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors. Meet with clients to take detailed ordering briefs and clarify specific requirements of each project. As required, travel to site for client interaction and/or OEM supplier premises. Delegate project tasks based on junior staff members' individual strengths, skill sets, and experience levels. Develop project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members. Ensure that work is done in accordance with acceptable standards. Maintain project records in accordance with the internal quality system. Preparation and management of specifications, schedules, estimates, progress reports, meeting agendas and minutes, and procurement issues. Electrical engineering and design during all project phases according to client, national, and international standards. Assessing client/ project electrical engineering requirements. Supervise construction activities, provide technical guidance, and resolve any issues that may arise during the construction phase. Prepare concept design and the ability to objectively evaluate both technically and commercially, different options based upon project objectives/requirements. Oversee testing and commissioning processes to verify the functionality and performance of electrical systems. Ensure that all project activities adhere to health and safety regulations and industry best practices. Cost estimation of electrical engineering scope of work, including equipment and construction costs. Proposals, Expression of interests, and tendering. Collaborate with local and international teams. Mentorship of junior team members. The designing of renewable energy systems Accurately predict project costings Accurately calculating system production and ensuring the integrated designed systems that are robust during operations. Understand and evaluate the business potential, build business cases and develop small- and large-scale solar projects up to financial close; Expand knowledge in renewable energy and other key emerging energy trends, build long term relationships with clients through a professional and correct work ethic; Deliver a strong ability to develop solutions and to respond to the fast-changing market environment. Business development and ability to grow business. Qualifications BSc/Eng/BTech in Electrical Engineering Professionally Registered (ECSA) or candidate (presently receiving registration) Experience Proven working experience in the electrical / consulting industry with project experience in electrical projects with 5 to 10 years of experience. Must be fully computer literate in MS Office to a very high level. Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and standards. Design of renewable energy systems, using tools like PVSyst. Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of design and using Digsilent. Electrical Design services for roof mounted and ground mounted PV and wind projects. Knowledge of Biomass, hydro and CSP projects (would be an advantage). Developing a Solar PV or Wind power project, including the ability to evaluate and perform feasibility studies, conduct technology configurations, conceptual designs, detailed designs and cost analysis for the full lifecycle of the asset, as well as understanding technology specific contractual agreements. Core Competencies Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel). Proficient with Microsoft Project. Experience with project management. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with health and safety regulations and environmental practices. Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. The ability to work with multiple disciplines of projects. The ability to work across multiple projects in parallel. Excellent organisational, time management, leadership and decision-making skills. Strong written and verbal communication. Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards and best practices. The ability to work within budgets and to deadlines. Experience in plant design & integration, project management and strategic business acumen, interpret and understand specifications and contracts.
