In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.As our Electrical Technologist your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Safety, Health, and Environment
  • Consistently apply safety and health principles in all site interactions, ensuring compliance within and beyond your work area.
  • Identify specific risks in the working area and follow discipline-specific plans and systems to manage and avoid them effectively.
  • Actively participate in safety audits, inspections, and observations, addressing issues promptly to exemplify safety leadership.
  • Promote excellent housekeeping practices to ensure a safe and compliant environment, facilitating controlled risk management and operational efficiency.
  • Engage actively in Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) activities, risk assessments, and the closure of safety actions, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Performance and Delivery In-depth Investigations
  • Conduct in-depth investigations before the commencement of a new project to determine the possible electrical solutions required.
  • Work closely with the Drawing Office to organise detailed sketches and designs required for the project.
  • Guide the maintenance team in advanced electrical faulting findings on electrical systems.
  • Prepare detailed reports on findings of in-depth investigations and share findings with the rest of the Engineering team.
  • Proficient in applying various Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques.
  • Project Specifications
  • Compile project specifications once the sketches and designs have been finalised to evaluate and place orders with preferred contractors.
  • Request quotations from suppliers to ensure the project is competitively priced is also necessary.
  • The Work: Key Outputs and Accountabilities
  • Project contractors and project expenditures
  • Manage project contractors once they have been appointed.
  • Oversee contractors' progress against the project plan, ensuring that they adhere to safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) standards and legal requirements to optimise the delivery of project performance outcomes.
  • Manage project expenditure to ensure sound financial practices and minimise overspending.
  • Perform project cash flow forecasts and keep track of the project budget. Commissioning, Testing, and Maintenance of Electrical Systems
  • Commission and test new systems once the projects are completed.
  • Address any discrepancies before they are captured on the system.
  • Update drawings of the new system to obtain all relevant stakeholders' signatures to finalise and close the project.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure the work execution aligns with set standards.
  • Collaborate with Reliability Engineers to develop asset tactics for the operation.
  • Monitor and Inspect Equipment Performance
  • Monitor and inspect equipment performance against the set targets.
  • Identify the top bad actors and collaborate with the Reliability Engineers in defect elimination.
  • Ensure that assets function as expected and functional failures are addressed promptly.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, develop initiatives to address them, and ensure all initiatives are fully implemented and completed.
  • Compliance
  • Comply with all the Anglo-American AS&R Framework requirements and best practice guidelines.
  • Ensure that all electrical designs and installations comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Stay informed about changes in electrical codes and industry best practices.
  • Review and develop standards and procedures guided by the Mine Health And Safety Act, AS&R, and Industry Best Practices
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate documentation of electrical designs, installations, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and drawings for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare detailed failure reports based on analysis of failures
  • Cost Estimation:
  • Assist in estimating the costs associated with electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Work with the project management team to develop budgets and cost forecasts.
This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the Specialist Reliability & Asset Health MonitoringQualifications
  • Relevant Electrical Engineering National Diploma on NQF6
  • Advanced Certificate
  • B-Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • SA Drivers License
Technical Knowledge
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in an electrical technology environment.
  • Key value drivers within the discipline's value chain and interdependence of critical levers.
  • Principles of how operational processes are classified according to the Operating Model, focusing on Work Management.
  • Project management fundamentals.
  • New technologies and their impact on operational activities within the scope of the role.
  • Business improvement tools and techniques
  • Business acumen and commercial drivers of site performance.
  • Basic financial metrics and budgeting tools.
  • Risk management techniques and critical controls.
