We welcome diverse perspectives, people who spark fresh thinking and aren't afraid to challenge assumptionsIn return, we provide you with the space and support to grow and achieve your ambitions.The EMS Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating all operational functions of the Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services and to design, evaluate and Manage Emergency Preparedness and Response in line with the Global industry standard in Tailings Management as well as meet the requirements of the Anglo American Social Way. This role furthermore focuses on integrated emergency preparedness and response efforts between Surface and Underground Operations.Key Tasks:

  • Manage operations and functionality of overall Emergency, Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services for Venetia Mine.
  • Manage Venetia Mine Airport requirements regarding firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services to meet the requirements and maintain Airport category status.
  • Manage Emergency systems Repair and Maintenance schedule and manage associated contracts.
  • Manage first-aid equipment inspection and maintenance according to schedule and ensure compliance to regulation.
  • Manage first line firefighting and emergency response equipment inspection and maintenance according to schedule and ensure compliance to SABS standards.
  • Ensure Emergency and response risk assessments are conducted to ensure adequate controls can be implemented.
  • Ensure Emergency and response audits are conducted according to schedule.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive emergency and response drill schedule in line with the GISTM and ISO 14001/45001 requirements.
  • Ensure that an emergency risk awareness program is in place to sensitise employees and contractors to emergency events.
  • Ensure that audits on systems, procedures, Codes of Practice and equipment are done to identify short falls and to prevent potential emergencies and provide expert advice.
  • Ensure that liaison with Emergency, Fire, Rescue and Medical institutions is sound in order to render a professional service continuously.
  • Liaise with the Skills Development Centre to update existing training modules when needed.
  • Ensure that all Emergency personnel are trained and assessed by qualified and registered assessors and moderators and are declared competent.
  • Ensure that existing and new building plans have been audited with respect to compliance to SANS and fire regulations.
  • Ensure that the Mine is equipped to, as far as reasonably practicable, manage any identified emergency situation that may occur.
  • Ensure that Surface and Underground Operations have established and intrenched emergency response protocols and plans in place.
  • Maintain service agreement and training of Proto Team members with Mines Rescue Services South Africa.
QualificationsQualifications and Experience:
  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Relevant qualifications in Emergency Preparedness and Response and Emergency Medical Care relevant to Mining.
  • Driver's license code EC & PDP
  • Intermediate Life Support Paramedic. (Advantageous)
Role Specific Knowledge and Experience:
  • 5 years Management experience in emergency preparedness and response.
  • Underground Proto Team experience. (Advantageous)
  • Experience in surface and underground emergency preparedness and response.
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding applicable Mining regulations.
  • Knowledge, understanding and training in incident management.
  • Experience of successfully handling incidents ('incident command').
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse workforce.
  • Extensive experience in emergency preparedness and emergency documentation
