To administer, maintain and coordinate the logistical aspects of clinical trials according to good clinical practice, and standard operating procedures while providing best practice patient care and assessments to trial participants

Key performance areas:Recruitment and screening
Ensure that all participants are being screen by doing rounds at appropriate site location
Screen patient files and identify potential participants for clinical trial/studies
Enroll participants by educating them about the study and obtain informed consent according to SOPs
Ensure that employee that are providing participants with correct study specific information and ensure that GCP and ICF procedures are correctly followed
Complete relevant study documentation/questionnaires and checklists on a daily basis during enrolment procedure
Sample Collection
Draw the necessary Bloods (infant, cord, maternal) and swabs/aspirates (naso-pharyngeal, oro-pharyngeal, vaginal, rectal) from participants/patients and send samples or specimens to laboratory in accordance with study SOPs
Explain and guide participants through the self-sample collection process (vaginal and rectal swabbing), ensuring adherence to the procedures outlined in the study protocol
Store and deliver swabs and blood samples to the local lab
Collect isolates from the local NHLS laboratory
Report any abnormality to Study/Team Coordinator within 3 hours of event occurrence
Prepare sample collection packs (Maternal packs, vaginal swabs, blood sample holders, etc.) on a daily basis and ensure that the correct packs are used to collect the specimens
Administration
Collect required data from participant medical records for each enrolment
Record and maintain recruitment plans, including screening and enrolment logs on a daily basis
Complete and file all relevant documentation (CRFs, source documents, etc.) in patient files
Quality control clinical record forms, before submitting to QC
Report on stats of participants recruited on a daily basis
Attend to data queries and resolve them accordingly
Make sure that all the NHLS results have been received and captured in the database
Customer Service
Ensure all customer interaction (Both internal and external customers) is of the highest professional level
Build and maintain authentic relationships with all stakeholders ensuring that all interactions are professional
Effective self-management and performance ownership
Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management
Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
Take ownership for driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities such as workshops, forums, conferences, etc.
Vehicle care and maintenance
Keep the Wits-VIDA vehicle clean and carry out the necessary checks
Driving and delivery
Liaise with management for daily transport schedule
Confirm that patients have their files prior to being transported
Transport patients safely to and from destinations
Transport Wits-VIDA staff for home visit purposes
Collect and deliver documents and/or goods safely
Complete relevant vehicle usage forms in accordance with policy
Obey traffic rules at all times
Provide any other ad hoc Driver duties as assigned by management
Required minimum education and training:
Enrolled Nurse Certificate (2 years)
Valid drivers license (Code B)
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum 1 year nursing experience in clinical trials
Professional body registration:
Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Experience working in a research and Paediatric environment (1 year)
Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
Tactful, respectful and maintain confidentiality
Good administrative skills together with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Pro-active and adaptable
Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Demands of the job:
Able to work under pressure, meticulous
Overtime, speed and accuracy
Ability to travel between various sites
Communications and relationships:
Communicate effectively with the Research Team and all other VIDA staff
Liaise with patients, caregivers, laboratories, social workers (referrals) and other Department of Health staff
